I ordered a computer and I didn't notice until just now that the video card I picked has two DVI ports, and no VGA. All I have is a CRT monitor so I need to get a DVI to VGA adapter, but that will only work if the DVI ports are DVI-I and not DVI-D. Does anyone know if the GeForce 6800 Ultra has DVI-I?
Who made the card? Usually it's DVI-I, but if you know the manufacturer, you can probably check their website to be sure.
im guessing an adapter should work, my radeon X800 XT uses an adapter and works fine. 6800 is a good card, what kind of computer. i.e Dell, gateway? or Clone.
It's an Alienware computer. I'm not sure where they get thier nvidia cards. I have been looking around, and every place I find just says DVI. Not -I, or -D. I found one site that said Nvidia only uses DVI-I, but the post was six months old.
NVIDIA® GeForce 6800 Ultra PCI Express 256MB DDR3 w/Dual Digital and TV Out
go to their site and email them. alienware.com they should have tech support. or open the case and look at the card and see whos name is on it.
I'll find out who makes it tomorrow. I started to panic because I had ordered a big cheap VGA monitor, and then noticed today that the card was dual DVI. DVI-I is probably the standard.
Don't feel too bad -- there are worse.
Sounds like you're planning on getting a really good box there. That video card is top end, and Alienware produces some really sexy stuff, even if it's not the cheapest priced on the block.
They probably lost a couple points over how long it takes them to put a system togather. I figured I'd give them a try this time though.
One of the best things I've done recently is get a DVI capable LCD monitor. I highly recommend ViewSonic.

Yes - likely it's DVI-I, as I see that mentioned on another PNY page.
Most NVidia cards come with a DVI to VGA adapter. Heck I got two of em with my 6800 Ultra. You should have zero problems.

You can buy 2 of the same Samsung 19 " panels for $350 each by buying the Hyundai L90D+ at Newegg.com. Same panel and specs, just assembled by Hyundai. I could only afford one though...lol.
I drive a Hyundai, design computers that my employer sells to them (for their CAD/CAM engineers) and I prefer Samsung monitors. Hyundai spends more money than just about any car company except BMW (which my employer also sells to) per car model on engineering design compute cycles.
Sweet combination - next time I need a monitor, I will go looking for that. Thanks.
Check out http://www.humanscale.com/ for that dream computer's flat screen monitor arms.
To original poster, I believe the card comes with an adapter (or two) for your purpose.
