Schindlers accuse Jeb of torture
Fox News Shawn Hannity | 25 March 2005 | James F. Rowland

Posted on 03/25/2005 6:27:16 PM PST by steampower

The parents of Terri Schiavo/Schindler just made an impassioned appeal to Florida Governor Jeb Bush to save their dying daughter. Mrs. Schiavo was obviously tired and spoke in a restrained manner, but her husband, Robert, although looking terribly fatigued, used very strong language and placed much of the blame for his daughter's seven days of "torture" directly on Jeb Bush, blaming him for the inaction that is letting Terri be murdered by a "tyrannical" judiciary.

Mr.Schindler says that the Governor has the power to end their ordeal with a "stroke of the pen" and if he had courage he would do it.

"Boise said that both Congress and the Fla. Legislators failed Terri. They had the opportunity to make a law that guaranteed Terri's parents the right to give her water and food until the matter was resolved in the courts but the verbiage just wasn't there"

The verbiage wasn't there because Democrats in the Senate refused to approve the bill unless leaders removed the specific verbiage that had been referenced in the House bill. [BTW: I have ZERO respect for anything that Boise has to say; he proved himself a man of VERY questionable integrity during the Florida 2000 fiasco!]

What bothers me is that so many people are unfairly blaming Jeb Bush for this, that it may have an impact on whether this good man continues in politics. This sort of public statement only adds to the faulty perception that this is Jeb's fault, and encourages those voters who have abandoned him because of this issue.

The Schindlers are being advised by people on the fringe who have no love for the Bush brothers. I think it's reasonable to assume they've had some influence here.

Very unfortunate, imo.

Nazi's toast starvation at Buchenwald - 1944

Stravation is now state scantioned in America - circa 2005

And somehow you fault him for doing everything in his power to save his child? Are you obtuse, disinterested, or just morally vacuous? I don't get it deacon. From what font of compassion do such statements bubble up from? Don't tell me it is from your considered opinion as a deacon of the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church's opinion is quite clear here. The starvation of Terri Shiavo is murder. And you have the presumption, the unmitigated gall, the inexhaustible audacity to fault this man. Have you no shame?!!!!

It sickens me that you pretend to represent the Catholic Church in a liturgical role.

Jeb Bush is a coward.

Scared of the police coming to grab him if he stands up to a swamp judge and a psychotic male nurse with a death fetish.

You don't let a woman be starved to death just because some lawyer in a black dress says so.

This is going to have major repercussions for the GOP and their ability to maintain a majority.

It was in one of their pleading papers; the Schindlers said that if she dies like this, according to the Vatican, she will face damnation.

You're getting confused by relying on Matthews. The argument was, I believe, that Terri usually followed Vatican opinion on pro-life stuff, and would have believed that she was putting herself in danger of damnation by wanting to disobey the Pope's recent speech on artificial nutrition and hydration. That is, the argument is that Terri would not have wanted to die, since such a wish goes against her religious beliefs.

Really.

I guess Judge Greer is really the Governor.

If you think for a minute the Clintons and Janet Reno would let this be done to them if the situation were reversed you are out of your mind.

Well I just learned something as I thought the Senate voted prior to the House bringing this to the floor. When he mentioned Congress failing, my mind immediately went to Franks, Moran, Wexler and the other whining camera hogs who would never have voted for it. BTW, I too share your sentiments about Boise, however since he seems to be on Terri's side, I'm putting aside the bad taste in my mouth just this once.

"Mr. Schindler doesn't seem to understand the the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has made official policy that contradicts the Vaticans position on removal of a feeding tube."

Are you being factious? Statements by the Catholic Conference of Bishops have no binding power in this area unless it accords with Catholic dogma. And these statements by the Bishops are just bunk.

There daughter is hours away from death and somehow you think they should be concerned about what you think of them? What a narcissist.

I think I've been pretty consistent in making it pretty clear that I don't really give two s**ts about what anyone thinks of me. That goes for the Schindler, and also for you as well.

You guys pretend to be fed up with the entire mess, and yet you continue to post your outrageous opinions on these threads.

I've never once even said anything about being sick of the whole mess. I'm sick of lies, mischaracterizations, and extremists calling for overthrow of our government and also extremists considering Terri to be Christ. Don't like that? Too bad. I'm not here to make YOU feel all warm and fuzzy.

Opinions you know will inflame and anger those who identify deeply with the Schindler's and Terri's fate.

You mean reasonable opinions such as "I don't want Jeb to violate the law, threby setting a bad precedent"? Anyone who gets angry and inflamed about that is a simpleton at best, and a hypocrite and a leftist at worst.

Why don't you put a sock in it.

Make me, Newbie.

Randal Terry is trying to save this woman's life.

Randall Terry is a snakeoil-selling, James-Traficant-looking individual with a history of questionable fundraising tactics and a political agenda, who is using the Schindlers for his own ends. Deal with it.

Ok... ok... you're right. We conservatibes should start demanding that our elected officals act with the same values as Clinton and Reno... Got it. I'll uhhh get right on that.

It does not appear to be Schindler who made the comment you referenced.

MATTHEWS: Well, it has spilled out when you start issuing statements by your lawyers saying your daughter is going to be damned to hell unless she gets the right decision in a court, which is the most screwball political and religious statement I‘ve ever heard, let alone the law.

Why do they bother with such policy if not to distribute it to their membership as guidelines? What is their role?

I found this in the policy I linked above:

Since the best current medical opinion holds that persons in the persistent vegetative state (PVS) are incapable now or in the future of conscious, free human acts, these moralists conclude that, when careful diagnosis verifies this condition, it is not obligatory to prolong life by such interventions as a respirator, antibiotics, or medically assisted hydration and nutrition.

This sort of public statement only adds to the faulty perception that this is Jeb's fault, and encourages those voters who have abandoned him because of this issue.

And by the same token, supporters of the Schindlers are bothered that Jeb has been shown to have the authority by the Thomas Moore Center at Jeb's request here.

Furthermore, DCF was on route to take custody of Terri but were turned around after Greer issued his injunction. That would be Jeb who turned them around.

You may think or feel it's unfair that Jeb is being blamed but the accusation is accurate. By virtue of the state constitution and statute 415.1051 Jeb could have allowed DCF to take custody of Terri under emergency conditions but they were prevented.

It's called leadership and Jeb has failed in that regard. By way of contrast, President Bush has shown remarkable leadership in the War on Terror by acting first and asking forgiveness later. At least that's my take.

Good compilation. Unbelievable that it's happening in America in 2005. Hope everyone sees the way Terri is looking at her mom. That's the look that my daughter gives ME.
