This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Some of those scruffs can start costing you real money in injuries. This barn doesn't have much option for turnout, does it? Nowhere where she and Okie could be in a smaller group or maybe just the two of them?
What will you do if there's a foal?
Like you it's a day to day thing for me also. I took a bad fall awhile back and physically and mentally it set me back a little but I keep going because it's a challenge and something I really want to do. It was my fault about the fall but it made me too cautious (ok afraid lol) of him so I gave him to my husband who needed a "happy boost" and adores him. They "fit". I still ride the horse occ and spend a lot of ground time with him (I guess I adore him too) but now I ride a mare (my princess:') most of the time that bucked me off once but that I'm comfortable with. Makes no sense huh?. :')
No, until I am a more accomplished rider I'll go with the folks at the barn.
My concern is that we are building a barn at our vacation cabin and I plan on taking him down there this summer. There really isn't anyone to ride with down there.
As for a foal, I won't breed SL until we do have a place that I know I can put them on by the time the filly is six months. I'm not going to board 3 horses.
Well, you know he'll act differently when he is alone all the time and you are his only companion, than he does trying to leave home and leave a place where other horses are. He may be fine. I'd just get him as much trail mileage with and without experienced horses as you can before you go.
Oh, I didn't finish answering your question. She would be in the pasture with the expecting moms and foals. Okie is back to normal now and ok. I have no other place to put SL except in the barn and that's not good either.
I don't know if it would work for you or not but I walk mine thru places I have concerns about first. They might still act up but at least we both have seen where we are going:')
I'd worry about good turnout for the foal. I wouldn't want to have a foal that couldn't be given lots of safe turnout... and I wouldn't want to be in a position of a boarder that can't control the group she's in.
Are you doing this foal just for the fun of it? Would you sell the foal then or ???
I work for a national bank as a mortgage loan officer and believe it or not , we just came out with a 40 Yr. mortgage. Can you believe it !!!!!!!! It would make your payments more manageable. I'm sure there is a bank around you that will be offering it. Worth a look...Who stays in a house 40 yrs. anyhow ?
I'm not sure. Feb. still a long time off.
40 years! lol. Imagine what you actually pay. My husband and I are the type of people banks hate:'). Anything over 10 years and we choke up. Buying a new car a stressor! Uncle Sam loves us though caz we don't have deductions.
Well people aren't ready for church yet so I'm still here. Fun I guess. Is that bad? I usually keep what's mine. I might give one away but I probably wouldn't sell her.
Thanks. He is a beauty - IMHO :)
Good morning. How is Rusty doing?
Don't breed SL until you know you'll have a place to put her on before the baby is born. She'll need extra feed and nutrients the last three months - then you want her to have a safe place to get out with the baby, where she doesn't have to worry about protecting it or fighting off other mares.
I think he's beautiful too. Is this at the end of the ride or the start? It has a victorious finish mood to it.
My friend has a squirrel, it was orphaned and she nursed it with milk etc. It is doing great now and rules their house! : )
HMM Good point. I was just thinking after she was born so I had backup. It would be hard to manage her diet. I would have to stable her. No firm date yet though. I just said Feb to indcate next year. I didn't want to say april or may because someone might have thought I meant this year.
Are you seeing these threads where women are literally nursing animals?
