When you take him out on trail are you going alone?

No, until I am a more accomplished rider I'll go with the folks at the barn.

My concern is that we are building a barn at our vacation cabin and I plan on taking him down there this summer. There really isn't anyone to ride with down there.

Well, you know he'll act differently when he is alone all the time and you are his only companion, than he does trying to leave home and leave a place where other horses are. He may be fine. I'd just get him as much trail mileage with and without experienced horses as you can before you go.

I don't know if it would work for you or not but I walk mine thru places I have concerns about first. They might still act up but at least we both have seen where we are going:')

Beginner riders should ride with others out on trails. But, I really think horses act better out alone, once you get them past the barn. I have always felt more in control by myself then with others.
