I didn't hear that. The first song certainly had its pitch problems, but I only noticed issues during transitions with the second song.
Trust me, she was off (flat).
It seems a lot of people (read: Randy) can't hear when the singer is flat. He picks up on it when they go sharp, but not when the go flat.
Vonzelle tends to wander around the pitch rather than hit it. But that seems to be the tendancy for a lot of singers today. They tend to swoop up on the note because it is easier than hitting it.
I may despise her politics, but if you want to hear how to hit notes properly, listen closely to Babs.
Well, Bo is anyway. Bo Bice, 29, of Helena, Alabama, has opened for Warrant and Blackfoot and performed and recorded with Jonny Neal of the Allman Brothers.
Which is why I won't ever vote for him. This show is about taking amateurs off the street that might not otherwise get noticed.
We'll have to respectfully disagree, because I can only go by what my ears hear (and Mrs. kevkrom is even more sensitive to things being in tune and she didn't think Vonzelle was flat either).
The same caveats do apply, of course, as have for the last month -- I'm not using the stereo system and I'm short on sleep (though the baby was quiet at least this time).
I am glad the baby let you watch! Last week I had to attend a meeting and missed Paula's breakdown. I am still kicking myself for not having the wife TIVO it (I am on the road in a hotel).
:)
I have akready been wrong on a prediction, but I predict Bo and Carrie are the last 2 standing. This week: Bronze Diaper gets the boot.
haha - thanks for reminding me!
That had to be one of the more amusing moments in American Idol history!
Good morning...sorry I missed you all last night..life happens..but I'll watch the tape, and scan the thread, before the show tonite..FYI..there's a HUGE, full page article in today's NY Times BUSINESS section about AI, Paula, and the ABC expose tonite..the "BUDiNESS" sction, f'pete's sake..grab a link for the thread, if you have time..
Morning :) I found the NYTimes article but I have register to read it.
have TO register
But I disagree with your #1. Vonzelle was flat on the second song, if not both. And her diva-style vocals are really beginning to annoy me. Simon was right when he told her that she's very vulnerable this week. If Fedorov doesn't go, then it will be Vonzelle.
Bo has limited range, but to his credit, I think he knows this and chooses songs that fit that range. He killed with "Stand By Me".
Carrie was the best she's been in weeks--on both of her songs. Not only did she sound great, she looked great. She was finally enjoying herself.
Slingblade's time is short, he may not be bounced this week, but it will happen soon. I think the pity votes are helping him more than the "votefortheworst" crowd. Now if he could only learn to keep his smart-ass comments to himself ...
I wouldn't say Vonzelle can't sing, but she definitely needs to drop the "Star Search" schtick.
A Carrie gif!!! Right-clicking and saving :-D
The bell tolls for Anthony tonight, I think.
Glad you enjoyed the ping :)
After rewatching the show, you may be right about Anthony leaving the show tonight.
As always, I put together my card before reading anyone's comments, so it pretty much sums up my first impressions -- I really didn't hear "flat" in Vonzelle's second number, though it appears that several people did. I still beleive she's the only one up there who really fits the bill of being a pop star, though.
I noticed that too, Carrie's always using her hands to get her hair off her face. And in a very casual way, like she's talking to you instead of singing to you.
Instead, she should throw her head around like Bo does.
Carrie
Bo
Scott
Anthony
Vonzelle
Hi Tony,
I'm a NYer too.........born in the Bronx, moved to Long Island in my late 20's
Vonzell: D and D. She simply did not get either of the two songs she sang, and I agree with Simon. She was all over the place trying to "make the songs her own." Her worst night of the competition in my opinion.
Anthony: C and C. At 19, he is the youngest and most inexperienced contestant, and it shows. He has no idea what his own musical style is, yet. But he gives it his all every week, and he does have natural talent. He just doesn't know how to take it from high school level to professional level.
Scott: A and D. His first song was wonderful. It's a classic and he knew just how to make it work for his style. Unfortunately, for his second song, he reverted to trying to sing too high for his natural register. Awful. He also may have run his mouth off once too often, because there are plenty of Constantine fans out there who have been building a backlash against Scott all week. Last night was NOT the time for Scott to get mouthy with Simon.
Carrie: A and C. She did a fabulous job on her first song. That's what I've been waiting to see from her all season long. A true star performance. Unfortunately, her 2nd song, "God Bless the Broken Road," is a monster country hit, and I love it. Carrie way, way over-sang it. Turned it into a power ballad when it's actually a much more tender and soulful song. Simon was also right in that she reverted to her robotic ways again in her 2nd performance.
Bo: A and A. His experience and knowledge of what works for him are starting to turn him into a bona fide star. He was much the best last night.
We should be heading for a Bo - Carrie final. If not, then I will finally begin to believe all those "vote for the worst" websites are having more of an influence that I presently suspect.
