The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Eat it? Yuck... even if one could catch an alligator safely, who'd want to?

That stuff's good for something 'sides eatin'.

OTOH I wonder whether these are the same sort of "scientists" that believe Viagra is a poor susbstitute for powdered dried tiger privates.

Good morning happy campers!

IT'S FRIDAY!!!!!!!!

I have the day off. I slept in. Such bliss. Am gonna vacuum the upstairs in a few moments and work on organizing my closet. There's a bunch of stuff I haven't worn since college (mainly 'cuz I can't fit in them anymore) that I'm going to take to goodwill. Some skinny-minnie could get good use out of them. Then I'm going to go get a haircut and then find an outfit for the beach.

Yes the beach.

Fort Walton Beach.

Of all places, the managers of my program decided to hold their big, important meeting there instead of someplace normal like white sands, aberdeen proving ground, or huntsville. No, Ft. Walton Beach during the spring break season. Brilliant! ... Brilliant way to waste Uncle Sam's money.....

Okay...

I've run Virus Scan, I've run Adaware, I've run Spy-bot.

I'm ~still~ getting pop-ups. PLUS, something is turning off the pop-up blocker. I put it on to block popups, less than five minutes later, I'm gettin 'em again. And it's turned off.

Suggestions?

Thanks.

My suggestions aren't helpful at all, so I won't offer them. ;)

Good morning!

Tonight engaged brother is flyin' in. He'd hoping to find a job to come back to after the wedding; maybe a place to stay, too. Keep him in your prayers!

MAN we had fun last night! Played at the pub, though it was so crowded we were out of the main room for most of the night, and we played for hours and hours...my fingers are sore. But lots of fun! And we got a bit of tip money out of it, too. Not a lot, but enough to pay for lunch today...

What pop-up blocker are you using? The only one I like is the one with the Google Toolbar...though the one that is built into IE after you install Windows XP Service Pack 2 is pretty good.

At this point, I use Mozilla for the most part anyway, and don't have pop-up problems.

Stupid question...but are Ad-aware and Spy-bot completely up to date?

And is there a pattern to the pop-ups, or are they just random things? If they're all for something particular, you might be able to do a Google search and find what's causing them.

Corin, I've run across nasty spyware programs that write themselves to the registry and reload at each boot up. Unless you delete them from the registry they won't go away.

I use Hijack This, a free download that scans the registry and gives you a log of the files that are there and will delete whatever files you like.

I always print the log file to a word file then copy and paste suspected entries into google and see what I can find out. If I find it's a hijacker or spyware I delete it.

****Follow the directions to the letter becuase deleting the wrong files from the registry can cause serious operating problems.*****

This was the only way I killed a vicious new spyware file my system was infected with. It took Adaware and Spybot 3 weeks to show a fix for it in their updates.

I love Ft. Walton Beach!! Maybe y'all will be able to catch it after most of the college students are gone back to school. UT Austin is on break this week. Our #2 son is in New Orleans with several friends. He has three cousins, all siblings, living there, so I gave him their phone numbers. Hope he called them, cause the youngest is a single guy and he could go out with them!

We had a salt tank on Okinawa, Japan...it was the easiest thing in the world for us to take care of...of course we could just go down to the seawall and fill up with new water whenever we wanted. The fish were cheap too as we caught our own...had lots of beauties we did. There was this time we caught a vey small octopus...figured he got out through the lid because we couldn't find him... :-) Then the fish started disappearing. He was really cool though.

I think the other thing that made it easier was that we had it BK (before kids). We put up a fishtank here about a month ago...first time since Okinawa...it's fresh water and we've had to replace 5 fish so far. I think we overfed them. :-( It's a 27 gallon octagon tank down in the kid's school room.

That's the plan. This week, at least. He changes his plans so much and so quickly that it would drive me insane!

GOOD MORNING!! Yippee! It's FRIDAY! Wish I was going to the BEACH!

I'm so glad you had a good time at the pub, Rosie! But why so little tips? Do you have a sign that says "We gladly accept tips?" Musicians in Austin did that. We always forgot till we saw the sign! LOL

Hey, you ever thought about busking? Musicians did that too, in Austin. On Sixth street, which is the main entertainment district, i guess. I always thought they were incredibly cool and wished I could do something along those lines...they made good money too. I was always happy to pay them because I enjoyed it so much.

They'd just set up a little seat and put their instrument case out with a note about tipping of course and play away. I always enjoyed sitting and listening to that more than going to the clubs!
