The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I don't know how they taste, but they are pretty good fish bait, once you get them out of their shells. Well, I don't use 'em for that, but I have seen it done.

My kids used to like catching them for pets too, when they were younger.

One night, in college, my brothers and I went frog gigging in a canoe. We only had one gig, so also took along a baseball bat and a net, both worked good on the bull frogs, we got a lot of them. The frogs taken with the bat didn't look as pretty as the gigged ones, but the legs still tasted as good, once we got them fried.

No apologies necessary!

I love seafood and will continue to eat crustaceans until I die (or develop an allergy to them). *grin*

Just not my lil' hermies.

Bangor has got to be some pretty good duty. I've been there, in a former life. They take security pretty serious there. Not a sense of humor to be found.

But it's pretty close to Bremerton, which is good for a squid town. Also easy to get to some pretty groovy little towns. Port Townsend, Port Angeles, Sequim, and little ol' Gig Harbor.

I can't imagine sticking a hermit crab on a hook. It just ain't right. :-/

And frog legs ain't bad at all! I usually drive down Tamiami and stop at The Pit BBQ to get gator tail and frog legs when the mood strikes. Yum, yum!

Shoulda taken Flat Frodo there when I took him to Shark Valley that day.

Good grief, no wonder we kilt 'em.

Course those goth teenagers in the junk shops at the beach didn't know what to tell us...

I'm still hoping to get an aquarium going.

If I get the time...

And the space...

And the money...

There's always Adak.

Good Marines EM club there, and that's where visiting Coasties like to go. The Marines built their own club to get away from the squids at the Navy EM club.

Adak Island. Population about 200. One truck, no trees, no roads, no civilians, no stores, no nothing and lots of it.

But two bars. Somehow it fits into the great balance of things.

Fried gator is pretty good - yeah, I would not use a hermit for bait either.

Did you catch this hilarious picture of a freeper fishing at Flamingo on the other thread?

That's a croc he has on the line, btw.

I tried the fresh water aquarium thing a while back, remember? It was just WAY too time-consuming and expensive for me to keep up.

I still have my bettas though. They are easy fish to keep.

All 3 of the "Rat Pack" bettas have died. Sammy Davis Jr died a year ago from bloat and Frankie and Dean died of old age within a week of each other less than a month ago.

I miss 'em.

They were all replaced, of course. I now have Fred Astaire, Humphrey Bogart and Jimmy Stewart. :-D

Funny, I bet he doesn't want that thing on the line.

We're hitting the couch, see everyone later!
