The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

The one that plays mpegs, does it play avis or ogms? Next time I get a dvd player I might want something that plays vid files...

No.... the old one didn't play avis or divx.... though some of the newer players can.

Bah... probably cost more than it's worth. I'd get an XBOX if I had to spend that much money, those can play anything. Playstations can't even play VCDs.

That's right! There were twelve dwarves, and Biblo made the unlucky number 13.

Finally decided it wasn't worth having a pet if you couldn't tell if it was alive or dead...

LOL! Tap them on the big pincher and you'll know for sure!

Actually, I've learned so much about the little critters now that I can tell you that...

A) the sand in their tank needs to be 3 inches deeper than the largest crab to allow them to bury themselves for molting,
B) they need at least 3 shells to choose from when they feel like switching,
C) the thermometer and hydrometer (humidity meter) in the tank should both be maintained at 80,
D) they should be bathed once a week, fully submerged for 2 minutes (no longer, they'll drown),
E) they need both fresh and salt water, as well as some form of calcium (sand dollars, coral, calci-sand), with their food in order to stay healthy.

Need I go on? ~snicker~

All kidding aside, I love these fellas. Saw one switch shells tonight and I was thrilled!

The jury is in. I have no life.

Nope! 13 dwarves and Bilbo made 14 to break that bad luck.

LOL, my pleasure.

Today in a nutshell...

Today is the first day this week that PE didn't have to stay home sick (Corin's cough-wheeze-hack-shiver-sleep thing). Bittygirl has a cold and can't breathe through her tiny nose (so she snorts a lot). Elf-boy has whatever GI bug that has been going around. He threw up this morning when he woke up (there is more but it's TMI), but has had a miraculous recovery (so far). It appears he "slept it off." When I called the doctor today, the nurse told me that just about every kid in Allen and McKinney combined has it. Just Dang!

I tried my hand at homemade pedialyte. It worked, but the real thing tastes better. I think I used too much salt. So, we went to teh store when elf-boy was feeling better and got teh real thing. Bittygirl got a free flop-eared bunny cuz we got easter cards, too.

What's that? A new pick-up line? ;-D

Bathe them? Wassup wit dat?

They are land crabs, but they still have gills. If the gills get too dry, the crab suffocates and dies. A daily misting is nice, but they need to get a nice soak frequently to keep them active and breathing right.

So, I get out a wee little sponge and scrub their pitties and behind their eye stalks. (joke)

I've got purple pinchers. Very common in the Keys.

Aren't they the cutest things? :-P
