Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And take the hidden paths that run...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Nope, just gills.
But they're specialized gills that allow them to pull oxygen from the humidity in the air rather than from water like fish gills.

No, Suzi, the baking soda and the egg white are analogous to the beer. It comes out very crispy. I like beer batters too, though, very much.
However, when Jeanne and I were first married, I remember buying these very large shrimp and boiling 'em in beer - now that was great! 'Course, that was before I figured out that I'm allergic to crustaceans. Shrimp ain't kosher anyway ;-)

Land crab snaigs are nice. ~smile~
They can drown if you have the humidity too high, believe it or not.

Course, that was before I figured out that I'm allergic to crustaceans. When I was a teenager, I developed a convenient allergy to raw shrimp. We used to help Daddy de-head them when he came in from shrimping. After I couldn't do them anymore, I cleaned the crabs. He caught them in the trawl with the shrimp, separated them at the sorting board, and put them in the cooler for the trip back. These were the tasty blue crabs. I even had to help Mama pick the meat out of them. It was a vey tedious job, but we sure liked that fresh crabmeat.
Sorry Ruthie!

Well they vary from dime-sized to softball-sized.
My "little" crab has a beer bottle cap sized shell and the "big daddy" has a gold ball sized shell.
I'll get pics up (with stuff next to them for scale) soon.
