If Hillary Clinton Is a Presidential Nominee in 2008 Would Any "Red" States Turn "Blue"?
Nov. 5, 2004 | BIOCHEMKY

Now that the 2004 Presidential Election is over, it appears that the democrats are of the opinion that New York Senator Hillary Clinton is one of the best possibilities for being named the next democrat nominee for President in 2008.

What is your opinion on this?

I feel that John Edwards presently thinks he could mount a serious challenge for the democrat nomination for President, but I doubt that he would attract enough funding to fuel his challenge to the point that he would ultimately be successful.

I have also heard the name of Indiana democrat Senator Evan Bayh (and former very popular Indiana Governor) mentioned as a possible (more centrist) democrat nominee for President in 2008.

Currently, who do you think is the best nominee for President in 2008 within Republican ranks?

I have heard that former NYC Mayor Rudy Guiliani is seriously considering it. I have also heard that CA Governor Arnold Schwarzenager (sp?) would like to be the nominee and there are some who support an ammendment to the US Constitution to allow non-US born citizens to run for President in order to allow Arnold to run.

well, the victory prediction aside, the point about women voters is well taken. many women will vote for her, quietly, because electing the first woman president would be a milestone event. young single women especially would have high turnout. she will be a "celebrity" candidate also, not a politician.

"Don't be foolish. The American electorate would CRUSH George McGovern, Jimmah Carter, or Al Gore in a 2008 election because they REMEMBER them from decades past.

Want to run Dukakis again?! We'll remember and crush him, too. Mondale?! Crushed. Ferraro?! Crushed. Dean?! Crushed. Jesse Jackson?! Crushed. Moonbeam Jerry Brown?! Crushed.

You think that Americans have forgotten them?!

You couldn't be more wrong.

Well, not to show my "foolishness" more but the people that you listed are not running. If Bill Clinton COULD run in 2008 he would win. His wife is running and he will be with her every step of the way.

Not to be a "fool"...but I choose to be very afraid of Hillary. She is dangerous but will package herself as a moderate...bet on it.

I am a huge fan of Jeb Bush. I think he is really, really smart and very articulate.

He should run in '08.

The implication of your statement about war and terrorism is that these are still key issues in the minds of most Americans in 2008. Barring another 9/11-type incident in the intervening years, I suspect this will not be the case at all.

A Hillary/Richardsen combination seems like an interesting possibility, but they'd have a hard time winning any southern states against a "standard" GOP candidate along the lines of an Allen or Owens.

Who knows . . . maybe we'll get a huge boost in 2008 and some state judge from New York or New Mexico will find a constitutional protection for bestiality just in time for the election season.

If we can bait her like we did sKerry into answering tough conservative questions like:

1. Do you back gay marriage?
2. Do you believe everyone was stupid that voted for Bush?
3. Should children be slaughtered as they exit their mother's womb?
4. Why did your professors label you as a socialist?
5. How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie-Pop?

Sheesh, folks, four years is a long time and Hillary will have an eight year voting record to exploit. Yeah, she'll run. But I think we'll beat her like a drum. Most men and at least half the women in this country can't stand her. She will get some votes. Democrats always get votes because "that's how my grandaddy voted." Republicans have to work for every vote they get. We don't get stuff handed to us on a platter like they do (blacks, gays, Hollywood, etc).

One thing I can guarantee, if she gets the coronation, you'll see a fight like you've never seen before. I've never given money to a political candidate, but to defeat her, I'd drain the account.

"Other than family tradition, I've never figured out why he's a Dem anyway."

What I can't figure out is why people think that Bayh is conservative. His lifetime ACU rating is only a 22, not much higher than John Edwards (12) and nowhere near that of Democrats Ben Nelson of Nebraska (51) or Zell Miller of Georgia (65). Bayh's voting record is consistently pro-abortion; while he has voted in favor of final passage of the partial-birth abortion ban, he did so only after voting in favor of the sham substitute amendment that wouldn't have banned any abortions because it exempted cases in which the "health" of the mother (including mental health) was threatened, making him no more "moderate" on the issue than Tom Daschle and Patrick Kennedy. He has voted for some tax cuts, but for the most part he likes to tax and spend. Bayh also voted to filibuster many of President Bush's judicial nominees. Frankly, the guy is a liberal with good public relations, and there is no way that we should try to get him to switch.

But I agree with you that he would be a strong presidential candidate for the Democrats, even though he wouldn't have come close to beating Bush in Indiana.

Bill Clinton never got even 50% of the vote. He'd be CRUSHED in any election without 3rd Party spoiler Ross Perot.

...And the people that I named were examples that each disproved your ignorant claim that the American electorate had a short memory. Run those old timers and the American electorate will remember...and crush them.

"Wow! I have over 10,000 posts in the last six years, there is probably AT LEAST one that's more ignorant than this one. Especially since this one is true."

Thinking that your original ignorant post is true is even more ignorant. Congratulations, you have just set consecutive records for pure stupidity.

#1-true, of course, and I never said otherwise.

#2-true, of course, and I never said otherwise. If the young DID vote, I think it would hurt Hillary!

#3-I'm right, and you're wrong. You cannot explain the NYS 2000 Senate election by the usual demographic analysis. I know women personally from NY (I'm from there, originally) who are otherwise quite sensible, who say, "I just had to vote for her, but I don't know why!"

My analysis of this phenomenon may be incorrect, of course-but not because I'm an idiot.

It's no malfunction. My tolerance for ignorance is simply unable to override some of the most lame-brained posts that I've seen in a while.

Anyone who thinks that the Dems are going to run yet another Senator after getting drubbed this year is dreaming...anyone who thinks that the Dems will go with another North East elite liberal White trial lawyer with baggage like Hillary - is out of the ball park.

I cannot imagine too many male union guys (at least the REAL men) voting for a woman, especially Hillary.

I'm from N.Y. and I am a woman.

You've just back peddled on just about everything you first posted, faster than anyone I've ever seen anyone one do here in 7 years.

I'm right, you're wrong, and Hillary! Bought votes in N.Y.,there's a huge Dem machine in N.Y.,and N.Y. state isn't the exemplar of the entire USA.

I didn't say that you are an idiot...but if the shoe fits......LOL

Hillary ran for Senate as a conservative and New Yorkers bought it hook, line, and sinker.

You don't need a demographic analysis. Hillary won because virtually no one knew who Rick Lazio was. If Rudy had stayed in the race, I think the outcome would have been very different. Rudy would have had almost equal starpower & he is articulate. Hillary, you know, is just, you know, not a very, you know, good speaker. You know.
