Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Hill and water under sky
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I still don't think they gave us enough hints...
Ok, yeah, I can see that maybe the Middle Eastern thing could mean something. Only that brings up yet another question. If it is "faith" that defeats the monsters (is that a neutral word?), is it simply faith, or faith in God? If it's just faith, would faith in yourself, or your baseball bat be sufficient? Or does it have to be correct faith? I mean, let's suppose that one or more of the world religions is wrong, would someone with a strong enough faith in it be ok anyway?
That's why I don't want to start going into too much depth for a movie!

Makes you think, don't it?
Anyway, my point in mentioning Signs was that people who say it was a bad movie because the "alien invasion" doesn't make sense are missing the point of the movie. The invasion is just what Hitchcock called a "MacGuffin"; it has no importance in itself, it serves only to drive what the characters do and how they react. Their actions and reactions are the point of the movie.

The 13th Warrior is about to start on Sci-Fi, if anyone is interested.

I have my doubts about the actual race, but what I like about it is that Frank Hopkins was real, and he did race in many long distance races. Plus it has a good villainess.

Well, he ~claimed~ to have raced in many long distance races. ;~D
About the only thing we know for ~sure~ is that he existed. Everything else is up for grabs.

ROFL! I forgot John Kerry was on "Scooby Doo" :) Hey, was that what the creatures in "Signs" looked like? :)

If that's Southfork...I was there with a church group for a Christian concert right around July 4, 1999. My last official act with that church before I moved up here.

In Signs... Are you saying that you think she ~foresaw~ what would happen and knew he would have to swing the baseball bat? I thought it was just a memory that was perhaps divinely inspired, if you prefer to think that, that occured to him at that moment. I don't think it was a message she foresaw or intended at the time of her death.
If she was foreseeing the 'invasion', better advice than the bat would have been to say "in a few years there'll be some aliens.... throw water on them".

Does it have talking aardvarks in it?
To: Fedora
Yeah, it's "Karate for Kids," ATA. Orange is after white, then yellow. He will keep his orange and (when he gets it) yellow belt for two cycles. After yellow comes camouflage. Elf-boy is a "Tiny Tiger", so he can only go up to yellow right now. When he makes camouflage, he goes into "Juniors." I am not sure how "Juniors" works.
I do know that "Juniors" also start out at white belt, but that once you earn a belt, you never go backwards.

So they actually start over from White once they get to Juniors? That's an interesting idea: it lets the kids progress in belts while at the same time limiting the progression until they get older.

I saw that too. When did you twig to the twist? For me it was during the wedding dance (spoiler) when the blind girl asked the lady why her sister hadn't come to live in the village.

Hair; LSA and I are 'vey' impressed with your tomatoes as ours have languished in this unseasonably Cool yet, oh so wonderful, summer. The romas have produced just enough for the occasional recipe. However given the typical, 104 last august of last year, we'll take the cool. Love our attic/whole house fan.
