New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
With such a long commute, why not ask for 4 days? You don't ask, you don't get!
Ummmmmm......
Doesn't he, though? :)
By day a friendly neighborhood grocer...
"How do you know it's the left stocking?"
Because you can tell that the person who wore it was left-footed.
Good idea! Have been reading Johnny Tremain, so have some good ideas. Am less interested in colonial life than what would spur a young man to go there on his own when he has no course of living in England. I am trying to find out more about indentureship and/or apprenticeship in merchants. 'Tremain' has good example of those, but I am hoping to find more concrete information.
Okaaaaayyyyy....
No, that's the HOSE-zone!
No, I never saw the series, just the spoof of it on "Saturday Night Live" :)
Billyuns and billyuns. . .
"No, that's the HOSE-zone!"
That's what I thought you meant :)

If your library has an online catalog, check to see if any of those are there. There might be descriptions of them, as well.
They don't take long to make. The hardest part is just rolling them out...gotta make sure you use enough flour and get them good and thin. I rolled them all out before starting to cook - put them on a plate with waxed paper between them so they were all ready to go.
Here's the recipe:
Whole Wheat Tortillas 2 cups whole wheat flour (could use spelt flour) 1 teaspoon sea salt (or less) 1/4 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 to 1/2 cup butter (or oil - I used olive oil) 1 cup warm water Combine dry ingredients in a bowl, mixing well. Cut in butter, then add water to make a soft, pliable dough. Knead briefly. Let sit covered with a damp towel for 30 minutes or more. Make the dough into 12 golf ball sized balls, then roll out thin on a well floured board. Bake on a pretty hot skillet until slightly browned, then flip and bake the other side.
Ingredients 1 jalapeno (I prefer Serrano chiles) chile, seeds removed, chopped fine (wear gloves) 6 medium tomatoes chopped into 1/4-inch chunks 1 medium red onion chopped 3 green onions sliced thin with green tops included 1/8 cup loosely-packed fresh cilantro, finely chopped 1/4 teaspoon cumin powder 1/2 teaspoon chili powder 1/2 teaspoon oregano, crushed between palms 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder 1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce 1 4-ounce can chopped mild green chiles 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar salt and pepper to taste Instructions Mix all ingredients together. Let sit overnight to let flavors blend. Serve with crisp tortilla chips as dip or serve as a condiment with other dishes. Store any leftover salsa in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Yield: about 6 cups
Thanks, Rosie! Sounds kinda like making peanut butter cookies but with different ingredients :)
But they aren't hard. And for us single folks, half the recipe makes several days worth. I only made six, and would have had LOTS of leftovers if my brother hadn't showed up in time for dinner...odd coincidence, that. ;-)
Six tortillas? How big are they, roughly?
10-12 inches across, I'd say. Decent sized.
Especially with lots of stuffins in 'em...
I was thinking more like taco-sized, about 7" across.
Evenin' everyone!
