The Hobbit Hole XIII - Let them pass! Let them pass!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

"Well...he needs rescuing alright."

And much like his mentor Gilligan, he will never be rescued. . .

He also kinda looks like he's about to be shot out of a cannon and he's thrilled about it. What a doofus.

Well, It never rains, but it pours!

Remember the 'city' job that I was considered for before? Well, the person they hired then did ~not~ work out, and they asked for me. I am set to go up there on Friday to ~try~ and see. The person I will be working for I get the sense is ~not~ easy.

This is really problematic! It's an hour drive each way, a stressful job for good money, but a lifestyle change for sure, and the problem is my existing job, which I wouldn't be giving up really, was about to get busier and make more money also. I had been working for a pretty small stipend, but there are now funds available to make it nearly full time again if we wanted. Of course there would be added work to do for it also.

We need the money of course... Question is how much can I do? And I'd need help! ecurbh is making pretty good money on web design, but that may be on again off again depending on contracts he can get.

Can I go into this job asking for 3/4 time or 4-10s or even 4-8s as just a condition of the job? It's a long commute to do 5 days. And working 4 days would allow me to do the other job too.

Problems and decisions! It is no bad thing to celebrate a simple life!

Hope you have luck finding some of that! I think Writer's Digest also publishes a book on background for writing historical fiction set in the 18th century. This isn't the book but I think it's from the same series:

Dale Taylor, The Writer's Guide to Everyday Life in Colonial America (Writer's Guides to Everyday Life)

1. The Horsehead Nebula.

2. Only in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

3. Neither. Fills like water, tastes like a drug-test specimen.

4. 'Nilla Wafers. Or Eggos. Leggo already.

5. There's nothing quite like a good game of "put out the torches and figure out which of us are women."

And to the non-yet-asked next question: Because I'm a smart-aleck who always has to have a snappy answer to everything.

Hey howdy there!! [sip]

Well... sounds like good news on the job front-- of course, it's a change of routine, but for now it seems best to go with the money. Worry about how to make the routine work later.

I can't say about the schedule, other than I'd hesitate to bring it up rignt off the bat. Not all jobs are workable in 4 tens, but some are. Might want to wait, do the job for a while, and see if it is even a practical suggestion.

Well, good on yer, ya Sheila!

...a stressful job for good money...

Most of us settle for a stressful job for any money.

Best to you!

LOL!

Answers sound correct, except #1. This is where all the left socks in the universe go :)

the art still has a lot of scantily clad women running around with high-powered firearms and explosives pretty much destroying everything in their path.

You say that like it's a bad thing...

Oh, good evening!

But--But--But-- Stephen Hawking, The Smartest Man in the Whole Entire Universe (TM)* says black holes are neither black, nor holes!

Discuss!

The hoe-zone.

History info is so screwed.

Try to find some historical fiction! I'll look in my kids' reading suggestions for their history curriculum and I'll post if I find any appropriate titles.

Let me know if you'd like to try the tortilla or salsa recipes in a few weeks when you hit Phase 2!

Please send them! I'm planning to make an Enchilada Casserole ( like a Mexican Lasagna) while we're at the reunion, so I'll need both recipes!
