Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A sudden tree or standing stone
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

She regretted taking the opportunity to talk to him about homeschoolers participating in school sports. That's still the sticking point for Jr.

My younger siblings are tryin' to talk me into doing a road trip this summer, visiting some Hobbit Holers along the wayWell, the 4th of July weekend is open for visiting at the SuziQ household!! Y'all will have to bring your sleeping bags and camp out in the basement, but it's carpeted and has nice padding underneath, so it won't be too bad. You'll eat good, though you may be put to work at some point doing stuff while we work on the house! ;o)

My grandmother was always a magnificent cook...I still remember her cooking and strive for it when I attempt to cook!
Toward the end of her life, she started making mistakes...once she put paprika in her apple pie instead of cinnamon. I think that just broke her heart, she never made another.
She's been gone well over 20 years and I still miss her fried chicken. I just don't know how she did it.

It's looking like that may be the weekend our brother comes from CA, though...so most likely we'll be staying put then. I've been putting off saying a definite "no" since he hasn't given us a definite "yes", but I don't think that'll work.

I think Nana just didn't read the label. Although she's made mistakes like that in the past. We've noticed before when she'd visit if she had not been getting out much, she'd often be confused. The interaction with our family, particularly Luke, keeps her mind young.

I know what you mean about your grandmother. My good Italian grandmother made THE best spaghetti and gnocci, but when she started losing her sense of smell and taste, she pretty much gave up cooking it. She was very much a bake-aholic, and I have lots of childhood memories of going straight for the cabinet where she always had a stash of homemade sugar cookies.
I miss her too. I am not the baker she used to be, but only out of self-preservation. If I made half the things I wanted to, I'd be 400 lbs!!!

My grandmother used to make cinnamon rolls and while she was making them, she'd sit me up on the kitchen table (a blue formica top and nickel-plated table) and feed be patties of butter!
I am always looking for one of those blue formica top tables...

Yeah, those are HARD to find now!! They were real popular in antique/collectible boutiques years ago. My grandmother had a 50s style yellow formica top table with the chrome edging. I was offered a chance to take it, but despite my sentimentality for it, I knew it wouldnt go with anything I had. Instead, I inherited the wood table that was considered the 'formal' dining.
I need to see about having that refinished.
Isnt it bittersweet to have all these memories, and want to pass this on to your own kids??? I wish I could give Erin have the childhood with my grandparents that I had, but it can't be. buying a house next to a creek is about as good as we can manage.
