Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A sudden tree or standing stone
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

This area is rich in history; we haven't explored nearly enough of it! DO plan to visit if you come up, though. Our little town even has some 'history' to it. There is a museum in town, an old house, that belonged to a General Artemas Ward. He thought he was going to be leading the Colonial Army until politics brought about the choice of George Washington in order to bring the Southern colonies into the fight. Story is, when Washington led the troops through town on the Post Road, that Artemas Ward, who had been standing at the window in his house on the Road, turned his back on the parade when Washington passed by. Not sure if it's true, but it shows that "t'was ever thus" when it comes to politics.

Agreed. It just pi$$e$ me off that the liebrals and the terrorist hate this country so much.
I gotta admit, on 9/12 I wanted to do more than anything we saw in those photos. But I wouldn'ta done it.
But you're right. We gotta make sure the real story is heard.

Good reminders.
This prison crap is depressing. I want it to go away. I want the people that did it to go away and I want to never hear from them again. Take away their membership cards, send them home. And then I want the media to move on. Yes, it was a story. But all 1,000 photos are not an equally big new story.
I feel bad for the other guys over there now, that while they do good work, this is all they think we care about. We'd care about ~anything~ else right now if the media would just show us something else.

Irresponsible dog owners should be publicly flogged.
Sorry about your Golden, Jen. Hope he heals quickly.

And we'll have to get together when you do the Williamsburg thing. Keep in mind that 2007 is the 400th Anniversary of Jamestown. It's gonna be HUGH.

I have Clare registered with a high school in Maine for transcript and diploma purposes. Maine has a requirement for 'State Studies', but the high school will allow an extensive Driver's Education course to count for most of the hours required, since she'd be learning State laws in the process. Clare did that week before last, and we're going to fill in the remaining hours with a couple of field trips to Boston or other historical areas.

Is the dog aggressive to people when he's out? - or just other dogs? If I could get ahold of him, I'd load him up and take him to the pound every time I saw him out. I'm not normally that hostile, but if he's loose and is a fighter I would. They have to pay to get him out of the pound a few times, in addition to vet bills, maybe they'll keep him fenced. Or, they let the pound place him somewhere else, unless he's hopeless.

This one is, and its owners know that, and they still let it get away from them. Can you keep a can of mace or pepper spray by your back door in case he gets into your yard again? Or just the hose on full blast ought to help!

He's definitely aggressive toward other dogs. Probably toward people, too, though we've avoided run-ins with this dog. Nasty critter.
Apparently they put him on a chain when he's outside, but he managed to get away the other day, so he could certainly manage again. And my brothers aren't the only kids in the neighborhood.

Well, problem with having anything like that is the brothers - probably they wouldn't use it on each other, but they're little and boys and occasionally really stupid. Plus we have a really big yard. Hose won't reach most of it. We're just lucky it was the weekend and Dad was around to help - he got the evil dog off ours, I got our dog inside, had the brothers get in quickly - but if we'd owned a gun that other dog would be dead.

Yes, I think I have to use them too. In the long run, it should work out for the best. Goal is to get a fund set up for help in dire emergencies. Fortunately I have a good model for doing this back at the college I attended. The lady who helped me continued on and set up a Women's Resource Center there. She has done amazing work and I have her mentoring on this.

Back later folks. I reckon I should do
some work today. Gots a public hearing to go to tonite tho. Idjits scheduled it the same night as the
Friends finale, but I suspect it won't last that long.
Our church handbell choir is playing on the steps of the State Capital at noon for the National Day of Prayer observance.

Gosh...somehow I didn't see this post first time around. Poor baby! People who let potentially dangerous dogs run loose really tick me off. I hope they got a talking to.

Dad kinda implied that A. he had a shotgun and B. if their dog ever showed up in our yard again, it would be dead.
It's bad enough that my brothers can't play outside during hunting season because we're in prime deer-shooting spots, and that the hunters trek through our yard. But now Mom has to worry about them being in the front yard in the middle of the day, because of stupid neighbors and their stupid dog.

Sorry for what I said to you on the other thread Corin. It isn't a message you needed to hear.
We are having issues this morning with our router... internet won't work with it and we had to bypass it to get me connected so I wouldn't descend into delirium tremors. ecurbh wants to go to town ~now~ to get a new one so we don't have to switch back and forth.
