Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A sudden tree or standing stone
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Hee, I can almost sing all of Sobakasu. (Still having trouble with the opening).
Not sure whether or not I saw much Messianic imagery. Maybe a little. More just typical hero-archtype stuff. Er, I don't know the terms, my degree ain't in English.

I don't cotton ta that high-falutin' English stuff :) Tolkien did draw from a literary theorist named Lord Raglan who wrote on archetypal hero traits, according to one article I've read.
BTW you have mail.

Sobakasu = Freckles, yes. I use Sobakasu to refer to the Japanese version, and Freckles to refer to the translated version.

Sheesh! Just had to slap down a lie'bral co-worker.
She was complainin' that the pro-lifers were out in force today with huge signs, including pictures of aborted babies. She was appalled that there were children out there too. Like "children shouldn't be seeing that." Granted, I'm not likely to be standing out there with them cause I wonder about the effectiveness. But I said to her...
"Too bad the babies in the pictures can't be told not to look."
Then we got off onto whether the Nick Berg video should be shown and I said it should. She was ranting about how people were saying what happened in the prison was now justified because we didn't cut anyone's head off.
I said no, but that the difference was that what was wrong in the prison was because of who WE are, not who they are. The prisoners are scum.
And then I told her how Kennedy (*ptui*) and Kerry were politicizing this and I mentioned the fund raising letter.
In some six years, I've rarely been able to shut her up.
But today, she had no response.

Do you have all the words for the Japanese version of the lyrics? I bet that'd help me with my Japanese if I memorized that. Right now I can mimic the sound of some of the lines in my head, but I don't know exactly what the words are or what they mean. I do notice the Japanese version seems a lot more meaningful than the English translation, even though I don't understand it. And are there several versions of the music, too?--because it seems like one version you sent me a link to opens slightly differently than what's in at least one of the anime versions, if I remember the link version right.

"Too bad the babies in the pictures can't be told not to look." BRAVOOOOOO!!!!
I've been more outspoken than usual at work lately and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of staunch conservatives I work with!! *happy day*

www.animelyrics.com - pretty good transcription, though not always right, and some translation.
Yeah, the song I linked you is longer than the anime version. Often the opening song on the sound track has two or even three verses, making it 4 or 5 minutes long, while the actual intro used on the tv show is only 1.5 minutes or so.

Go Corin! Rah Rah Rah! *Waving pompoms*
At the client site, one of the guys I work with is a flaming liberal, leftover hippy. The sort that thinks the media has a rightwing bias. I listen to him spouting off and keep my lips clamped together because I don't want to tell my elders that they're idiots.

I can't imagine what it would be like to lose someone that close to you without having any hope of anything to come. I think I would have lost my mind, seriously. Same here Rosie. I spent most of my life *not* knowing. When my grandfather died I didn't know. He was the closest thing to a dad I had and after his death was when I really dragged myself to the bottom of humanity. That's when I became all too familiar with all manner of illegal drugs. *sigh* I am glad I met Jesus and learned better before Grama went. And a lot of that is because she was so happy to see that. :-)

Just had to slap down a lie'bral co-worker. Had a teacher say in the lunchroom tuhday that Berg's blood is on Bush's hands...
I replied, "that comment shows your ignorance, and your lib'ral delusion... If you are going to spout that b#llsh!t, get outta my sight..."
she left...

I haven't looked - what I did was checked out the Amazon dvd listings, but they have a lot of spoilers.
No doubt there are episode guides. Rurouni Kenshin has a huge and rabid fan base. Apparently, until a year ago you could read "scanlations" of the manga - fans would scan it in and replace the Japanese with English - but once it got licensed, those went away.
Remind me to thank my friend who didn't tell me I could get it online...
