The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Thanks Suzi! I am thinking about how to use those dresses or fabric from them.... and I will definately be using the linens. They aren't bad at all, even if I can't get the little spots out.
As dad said "We had linens?" Guess we never had anyone over who was good enough for the linens!"
Although.... he is just bein' a guy.... we used them every holiday.

We've wanted to get it restored for a long time but are afraid it would be ruined. I think wneighbor's tea stain idea might work. The brown threads may not pick up the stain, but it will make the lighter areas get more brown and possibly more uniform. Do you have anything smaller that is similar on which you could experiment?

Okay, I posted all the rest of those photos I took so I'm gonna post these anyway - just cause I took 'em...
Here's the front of the dress with the train dragged out to the side.
And the front with the bustle part all fixed up. It isn't crooked like that... somehow I just had it hanging not straight.

I really like tea-staining things. Can you tell? Since I have a lot of antiques anyway I even tea stain new stuff to go with the old stuff! LOL

It is a gorgeous dress WN... I really appreciate the offer and I will keep thinking about what I should have.
I do think that dress shouldn't be outside. It isn't even that it wouldn't look good to wear again, I don't think it would look good after 10 minutes in it down there! I think it would be more comfortable to find a light dress that won't be hot in the sun and yet still looks sufficiently weddinglike.

I like that Hawaiian one. Very simple and cute.

I've always been afraid that bleach would eat through the thread. You could try one of those non-bleach whiteners. Clorox 2, is a peroxide based cleaner. Oxy Clean sounds like a peroxide based cleaner, too, but like Wneighbor said, it may be TOO strong.

Oh! I totally understand!! I wanted to make sure you know what you had available should some really formal bug bite you - or some really talented seamstress appear to fix this for you.

Hey! I had forgotten peroxide Suzy! Sometimes you can just use regular peroxide from the bottle on spots and they come out.

I've noticed that small libraries like that tend to make up for being small by having a very good selection in specialized areas. A library with a good Norse myths collection sounds fun :)
To: RosieCotton
I like the Hawaiian one too! I am half tempted to just order it and get over it!

Just so ya'll know... when I was at Sam's today.... I found a pack of reduced price ribeyes that were every bit as thick as those entmoot steaks. Grilled 'em on my indoor grill and about to take my first bite - smothered in Tabasco sauce.
Alas, I forgot to look for the Chipolte Tabasco when I was at the store gnad. It's just plain old fashioned red stuff.
