The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

it is harder to sneak this in than building an unpermitted shed out back.

Who built a shed out back???? Not me, I tell ya! It wasn't me! Oh no!

It's a CHICKEN COOP, I tell ya!

Is Dona or Kay or anyone you know there a suitable seamstress? I am uploading photos of this wedding dress now. It is much fancier than you are talking about. But, the thing is... if it's free... and you know someone handy with scissors and a sewing machine... it could become more simple.

For one thing.... it's got this HUGH bow on the butt. and that's just gotta go!!! I mean... for my body shape... my butt is way bigger than my boobs anyhow... on me it would just say - "HEY look at this out of proportion fat BUTT!"

And it's got one of those combo train or bustle things. Up it's a bustle - ditto on what I just said on the bow. But, down, it's a very pretty train. Personally, I'd get rid of the bow, let the train hang and go with it. And frankly, (if it was me) I wouldn't give a hang if it got messy cause it's free and you'd only wear it once.

But, anyway, I'm going to post the photos. And you see if anyone could sew it into something you might like. It may be too fancy though.

tuhday I taught fleshman engrish first block.

second block I lectured a government class full of juniors about patriotism, and what it means to serve your country, see combat... it was fun... also spoke my thoughts on the current political situation and the antics of this years election, and the true nature and threat of Islam...heh heh heh... the regular teacher was cool, but there wuz a female aid in the back havin' conniptions... she took copiuos notes...

third block I stuporvized the yearbook staff....

fourth block I had a plannin' period... so I came home... almost feel guilty... almost...

Okay... here's the front of the bodice:

And here's the back of the bodice:

Okay, you can see it's on the fancy side. AND THAT AWEFUL BOW!... One thought, could you cut off this bodice and use your mom's skirt? This is satin.

Oh, and you could cut off some of the sleeve and make something more to your liking - maybe.

Heh... my friend Bob built pasture-shelters for his horses that are three sided buildings about 15X25. They are on huge beam-skids on the bottom so that when they get dirty inside, he can just hook it to the tractor and move it to a fresh spot. Works like a dream. I guess it is like a enormous chicken-tractor.

When the county came by asking about his lack of permit, he showed them that it was portable, and said it wasn't really a building, it was a vehicle. Not sure now whether that worked longer than the initial chuckle.

Sounds like a great day g'nad! I have hope for the class you spoke to about patriotism! Did you have hopeful expressions or good questions from them?

If I'd had a teacher like you, I sure bet I wouldn't have despised school so much! ALL my teachers were liberals.

Yeah!! That's the very principle behind chicken tractors! They are supposed to be large chicken houses on skids...but any portable coop is a tractor, thus ours (being pick-upable) is a tractor.

That's my understanding, anyways.

these jkids were pretty sharp, but no profound questions... the teacher guided the discussion well with directed questions... I had no idea before hand what I was going to say, or what questions he would ask... I just laid it out fer 'em as I see it...

WARNING! YOU ARE ABOUT TO SEE MY SEWING AREA - THE MOST CLUTTERED AREA OF MY HOUSE!

Here's the back with the stupid bustle look...

And here's the back with it hanging down in a train. Very pretty IMO... BUT, the other thing about it is... if you wanted to change the style and needed extra fabric, there is lots o' fabric here to work with.

You're working out tomorrow, not tonight, right?

Right...tonight is play music / eat junk food night...or at least serve junk food to company night.

Sorry about the college situation. Bill is going through something similar in that they want him to get various paperwork from the state. I imagine every place is different...I was accepted to Franciscan University in OH without any official transcripts - they really cater to homeschoolers. I didn't end up going, but that's another story. I bet colleges' attitudes toward homeschoolers is going to shift in the coming years as it becomes more and more prevalent and it's harder to ignore that it works very well for a lot of students. You have the misfortune to be a pioneer. ;-) But I'm sure it'll work out in the end!

Mom's wedding dress looks real good. It isn't old enough to be delicate and the fabric is nice and crisp and not too yellow. That other little dress is the one that is too dingey (sp?) to look good.

The smaller dress looks like it might have been the wedding dress of one of your Grandmothers, or maybe one of her attendants or flower girl.

When my niece got married, she used the fabric from her Mom's wedding dress, and had a local costumer make a dress for her. It was just lovely. Maybe you can find someone who can look at it and give you a 'consultation' about using it. You could also just use both as 'memorabilia' during your celebration. Set a place up where they can be displayed as a memento to your Mom, with the picture nearby. (if that would be ok with your Dad)

Oh! I like those a lot.... most especially the second one. But, both are pretty!

I just keep hanging onto this thing here thinking one of these days someone will need it. LOL

At first Myranda said she was gonna want it someday.. but she gave up on that a coupla years ago. I was thinkin' about garage saling it if I ever get around to having one... or taking it to a consignment shop. But, until I do, ya know, somebody might just need the thing.

Can you believe the junk I come up with around here? Talk about needing to clear out frap! LOL

How about the linens?

After they're cleaned, you could use them on the tables for the food at your reception!
