The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

So a guy who was pretty good fifty years ago but in general is highly overrated?

Just kidding. I like Asimov's stuff, I just don't consider him more than in the top ten... But thanks for explaining who the racecar guy was.

Was he signing a hat for the President, or was the President signing the hat for him?

And I'd better get to bed... read a little, then lights out...

We started "40 Days of Purpose" today at our church

We start next Sunday... lookin' forward to it... we invited nine of the neighbors to the home study... doubt we'll get more than four tho'... oh well... all we can do is ask... the Spirit takes it from there...

Not good. I'm in the planning stage and it calls for a bit of math...I'm so bad at it that Steve will need to sit down and figure it out with me...yardage, you know? We need to figure out what size fabric we're gonna use, first.

So right now I'm feeling a bit discouraged. But we'll figure it out.

They certainly turned out, any ways...using the butter and no oil the way I did, I was a bit worried. But they were really tasty!

Hey all! Just got an email from the guy who replaced Tom. It's short and sweet. Here ya go! You dont have to worry about anything that is sent not being eaten. We are a hungry bunch I tell ya! Gardettos are a favorite around here. I guess Tom and myself are alot more alike than we think. I just bought a new laptop myself, but it was delivered to my Moms house since they wouldnt ship to an APO. Well, its good to hear from you and tell everyone thanks for all the love and attention thnat is sent our way. perk

Thanks for forwarding this, Wn. It always good to hear from the guys and to know those packages, prayers, and thoughts made a difference in their lives. Tonight Terry and I were watching Geraldo over there with the guys still serving in Iraq. We were talking about how he has stayed true to the guys and seems to care about them, even though the "Clintionestas (sp)and their "One World" friends would like to turn this and them into something like a "Vietnam" nothing". The smucks. Anyway, rambling again. . .thanks for all the time and effort and for forwarding how they are doing and all.

Hope you are all well around the "hole"

Ah, Jen ... Asimov was a pillar of science, not just SF! Not to mention his work for the government during WWII ... but I digress.

I suspect The King was signing a hat for Bush ... Richard Petty's racing number was 43.

I hear yuh on the music... we have "professional" groups comin' in... my feelin' is, we're doin' what's purported tuh be a grat, meaningful study... let's not make a spectacle outta it... fercryinoutloud...

I was asked to sing next month as part of this... I was surprised they slummed and asked me... somebody mustuh canceled...

they want me to do Ray Boltz's Thank You For Giving To the Lord... never heard it before... when I asked her fer the music I gotta blank stare... *sigh*... guess I gotta pay sheetmusic.com a visit... she asked me to sing to canned music... that is simply outta the question...

Oh, it's a GREAT song, though...g'nad! You'd do GREAT with it! It just happens to be one of my favorite "non-hymn" songs. Very moving.

Thank You

I dreamed I went to heaven
And you were there with me
We walked upon the streets of gold
Beside the crystal sea
We heard the angels singing
Then someone called your name
You turned and saw this young man
And he was smiling as he came
And he said friend you may not know me now
And then he said but wait
You used to teach my Sunday School
When I was only eight
And every week you would say a prayer
Before the class would start
And one day when you said that prayer
I asked Jesus in my heart

CHORUS
Thank you for giving to the Lord
I had a life that was changed
Thank you for giving to the Lord
I am so glad you gave

Then another man stood before you
And said remember the time
A missionary came to your church
And his pictures made you cry
You didn’t have much money
But you gave it anyway
Jesus took the gift you gave
And that’s why I’m here today

CHORUS (repeat)

One by one they came
Far as the eyes could see
Each life somehow touched
By your generosity
Little things that you had done
Sacrifices made
Unnoticed on the earth
In heaven now proclaimed

And I know up in heaven
You’re not supposed to cry
But I am almost sure
There were tears in your eyes
As Jesus took your hand
And you stood before the Lord
He said my child look around you
For great is your reward

CHORUS (repeat)

I am so glad you gave

well, you could say that Richard Petty is to racing what Asimov is to SF.

't's why we just call him The King! Guys that drive fast! Oh mama!

I've been ridiculously upset since they played "We are Family" during the Traditional worship. I go to the traditional service because I want less contemporary music going on...I mean, I have two small children that I want enfluenced by the classic hymns of my faith...I LOVE the Baptist Hymnal!

We have the contemporary service...I'm thrilled my church offers it for those who feel comfortable worshiping God that way! Why can't they just let those of us who want the traditional service HAVE it? It's almost like they are thumbing their nose at us...shoving it down our throats!

There are such good folks in our church and they do magnificent work! I mean, that's something to have a church as huge as ours and pay cash for our buildings!

I'm just feeling really down about the fact that the days of that very traditional and comfortable way of worshiping is gone. My heart just breaks over it.

Whoduh thunk it...I'd be old-fashioned at age 40.

I have had problems with this song, because I believe it says in the scriptures that we will throw our "crowns" at the feet of Jesus, due to the fact that whatever has been done to further the Kingdom of Heaven, HE does it... thank God.

we're right there with yuh...

our traditional service does a good job... we sing at least four hymns, and maybe one praise song thats goin' on durin' "stand up and shake hands"...

we're glad we have a choice... and we choose traditional... course, the interim choir director owns five funeral homes... any connection there?...

yup... all for His glory... not ours... I agree with your analysis of the tone of the song...
