The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

I dunno about that. Buried barrels with body parts...nah. Not that I can remember. Of course, I have repressed most of my childhood there.

I DO, on the other hand, remember helping Dad skin deer, set coon traps, bathing in the creek...

but again, buried barrels, that is too weird!

Hair, don't you still have those photos of the witch's circle somewhere? You gotta post 'em... and tell about "the chair." And the old man who usedta live there!

PQ that weekend was so drizzly and wet that we had to have entertainment! I still laugh to think about those guys gettin' so skeered over everything!

And, do you remember how Jill sat there all calmly lashing together that stool or table or whatever it was through all the shenanigans? It was like she was completely immuned to everything going on!!!

We fried prickley pear pads in butter too and grossed 'em out if I remember correctly - but that may have been one of those other times over on the other side of the lake.

When I moved here, the woods were both overgrown and full of tossed trash, beds, appliances.... just piles of garbage. All except this one area down a path in the woods that was all mowed and cared-for. The one place on the property that someone tended.

It has a weird home-made chair in it... I imagined that was for a ritual of some kind....

Kewl! I love all the pictures of your property!!! I would have a field day spending a week there just roaming the land. It is so green and beautiful.

You would have a field day just finding all the mysterious garbage just out of sight!

Here is a pic taken looking the other direction, taken late last summer when it was drier... Looking back toward the chair barely visible there....

I have put a fire ring in the center there.

They worked hard to bury it there too....

Was there an intact "bottom" to the drum, too?

My guess is the drum was used to stash something. That square opening on the top looks like a good place to stick a 2x4 to pry the top open quickly.

You might want to get a metal detector, and sweep the area for more metal. That "witches circle" was definitely used for something shady. If not moonshine, they may have been cooking meth or something like that. Keeping it overgrown and hidden would be a definite advantage.

Well, if there weren't buried barrels on your side of the creek I can pretty much guarantee there was stuff like that on the place across the creek from ya'll! Did you ever just look at some of that stuff there from the road! SCARY!!! I looked at that place one time when it was up for sale..... didn't want a junkyard.

I think I was pretty good at christening them well for the trip!

There's a treadmill in the paper for so cheap even I could afford it. I'm assuming it's prolly manual...wonder if those work at all. Would be nice to have one...

Take a look at the treadmill! Maybe it'll work for you...

Did you get to read Princess Bride over lunch? I was at the client site so I snuck out and went to Barnes and Nobles for fifteen minutes and got another of those "Flinx and Pip" novels Rose and I were talking about last night. Though I really shouldn't be spending money like this right now...

What we are looking at was the "bottom".... it was not a removable lid. We cut through it with the sawzall. Whether the other end was sealed, I don't really know. I didn't stand in the bottom of it, but maybe I should have. Just looked like they took a barrel, either with a lid on it or not, and buried it upside down.

It would not surprise me at all if they were cooking meth back there... Although we didn't find a lot of that ~kind~ of garbage (the empty Actetone, propane tanks.... etc...) we have found more of this kind of crap...
