The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Seems if that's what he wants... but ashes over a fishing does seem more appropriate than mixing the ashes in with 1 oz. of No. 8 shot.Seems fine to me.... should be whatcha want.

I stopped to eat. Hadn't had anything since my chips and queso for breakfast. Mostly today I was hanging things on walls and getting stuff in my new library that I wanted. It's still topsy turvy but the right stuff is in there.

Well, it will cost twice what you think it should and take three times as long as you thought it would. Pretty good rule of thumb for 'a little TLC'.

Like the Blandings House.

I think of these things when I make up a package...how far on several levels will this package affect the soldier and those around him. Exactly. We're operating on faith, at a certain level. We'll never know how much good we accomplished. We can only do what we can with the time that's given to us. (Where have I heard that before).
A bunch of us got pinged to another topic here, which had this URL for something very interesting. I wonder if we should look into it.
tiny American pocket flags
The only thing that gives me pause it the triangular shape the flag is folded into. While that's the proper way to store a flag, I also remember it from receiving the flag from my father's coffin.

Isn't Cornell in upstate NY?, Yep! Just got finished talking with #1 son on the phone. He's first year at Cornell Law School. Ithaca is South and slight West of Syracuse.

Ithaca's scary.... I've never seen so many liberal bumper stickers in one place.

For one thing, it's got to be a lot more abrasive on a fine shotgun barrel than the plastic filler. Just how I'd want my friends to remember me: eroding their shotgun barrels. :)

I just read in Forbes Magazine that scientists at Cornell University have ascertained that hot cocoa is very high in antidioxidents. I'm gonna live forever... ;-)
I'm not sure how much I believe when it comes to antioxidants preventing illness. But it'll be interesting to see where that sort of research goes!
To: 300winmag
I had not thought of that, however, would it be an issue since most of use shot cups?
We were just figuring to use a Lee dipper instead of mixing it with the shot in the reservoirs. But it won't get past the talking stage if I know Ginny. :-)

Ithaca's scary.... I've never seen so many liberal bumper stickers in one place.Probably about like Montpelier, VT. 'Round here, there are lots of conservatives...and plenty of pro-life and pro-Republican (or libertarian) bumper stickers.
Which means it's a real shock going to the capital and seeing all the liberal / socialist / anti-Christian garbage people plaster on their cars. I suppose they'd say the same thing about us, but theirs are smarmier! Seems like most conservative ones are pro-something...whereas the "other side" uses ones that insult our side.

Yeah, or the one from "The Money Pit". That came out whilst we were literally knee deep in a project. We thought it was a great movie.

I think it would take at least a couple boxes of shells to dispose of all the ashes, from what I've seen there's at least a quart of them, time it's all burned. OTOH, maybe the ashes could be pressed into clay pigeons, that ought to scatter 'em pretty good. I mean when the #8 hits them.

Well, none of us would likely want to "donate" shot space for his ashes, heck, every shot counts (no pun intended). But maybe using 1 1/8 oz shot cups and loading 1 oz of shot, hmm, might work. Still, going to take more than a box or two, five would provide a squad a round. Might work at that. Oh, well, I hope it won't come to pass for years, especially since he's the best at handicap.

Yeah, or really dumb... my 'favorite' is the one that says "Wouldn't it be wonderful if schools had all the money they needed, and the Air Force had to hold bake sales to build new bombers" - that's not it precisely but close enough.
Oooh, that one got me mad. Morons.

I'm not too convinced the ashes would be very abrasive, they are kind of greasy, from what I've seen, which is a couple burials at sea.

I love Flinx ... but Pip is a dream pet!
Pip likes salt, and when Flinx is in the credit, he buys a big bowl of giant pretzels ... Pip gets in the bowl and rolls around in them, eating. I love that image!
Check out his other stuff, too, especially the books featuring September Skua ... they are an offshoot of the Flinx books. Also check out Montezuma Strip and The Mocking Program ... police procedurals set in the future, with harder science than J. D. Robb's Death series.
Did Da Bear recommend the Peter Hamilton books?

I'm freaking myself out ... most of this stuff I know, but they want it in a specific format.
And some of it is not going into my long-term memory, if you know what I mean ... for goodness' sake, who needs to remember the UL code for surge protectors (1449)? Who needs to know that COM1: is mapped to 3F8h and IRQ4 (that's what reference books are for)? And who cares that DOS memory runs from 00000h to fffffh (note the five digits in the hex address)?
I'm scared I'll flunk it ... gotta take some practice exams this week.
