The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

We're fixing to build a 1500 sq. ft., 2 story addition on to our house, and I do mean WE! This was the first big step. Having Gimli around means we don't have to worry about whether or not the rental store has one available when we need to dig footings, the basement, re-grade the front and back yards and build a pond, etc. When we're done with all the work on the structure and the landscaping(in 3 yrs. or so) we'll just sell him!

We got a nice deal on a used one from a rental place. He's sorta banged up, but runs just fine!

Hey ya'll, I am posting the photos from the last batch of stuff I mailed off to the troops... that was on February 16. I have lost a whole group of photos that I mailed before that. I spent some time looking for them to post before these but can't find them so I'm just going to go ahead and post these.

This package I forgot to photograph before sealing - I was very tired that night. From what I remember it had one of those barrels of cheeseballs, a lot of snack cakes, candy and gum.

And this is all the packages stacked together that went out that day. :-)

I always make two batches, too. Clare doesn't like nuts in hers, either. I never got around to making any at Christmas. I may just have to make some tomorrow! Or rather, later today.

The group of packages that went out before this were all made up of boxes of chips and large containers of Pace salsa. Each of the troop groups I am sending to got one of those. I also had one package go out with a lot of candy, snack cakes, gum and magazines in it. I'm sorry I don't have those photos. I took them but can't find them anywhere.

Tonight I have packaged up Gardettos, Little Debbies, homemade fudge, shampoo, lotion, and assorted candy to mail. The camera is at work tonight but I need to go by tomorrow for some other work related items and will get the camera to photograph these boxes then.

I also had the accounting done up for the supplies about 3 weeks ago, but it is not up to date now. However, 3 weeks ago I had received $465 in donations since Dec 1. I had spent right at $575. I have received a little more since then but don't have that added up yet. I have spent what I received. more accurate accounting on that when I get a little more time.

I am not on here enough to know if Steve has posted lately or not. But, as I was getting these packages together tonight he was really in my thoughts and on my heart. I hope he is okay!

Bay is a lover too... I think their loving temperament, even with their hint of sass, is more important to to the breed than their style.

I agree. What you describe is also found in the best hunting dogs. It's that "I'm your best buddy, but let's go out and have some fun" attitude.

Some people hate the sight of Arabs doing dressage, but any breed can do it well. You just need to know the breed in order to judge whether the horse is doing well for that breed. Arabs have all the collected movements down pat, since they can just about roll themselves up in a ball.

I think it's the attitude that makes Arabs great sport horses. There may be no single thing they can do perfectly, but they can do most everything pretty well, and always have fun doing it. Just like with a dog, if you can convice an Arab that he's going to have fun, you'll have no trouble.

Suzi, I'm sorry, but I'm all tuckered out. I gotta get some rest. I kept a couple of 3 year olds today, made that fudge, got those packages together and now - I think I'm gonna pamper myself with a good nights sleep! Goodnight!

Well, I for one, love to see an Arab doing dressage.

You should scan some pics to post of Marl and Aki working or competing! I would love to see them!

I always thought it looked like the leaves they show it wrapped in in the Peter Jackson version, only smaller and without the stuff inside, you just eat the leaves. And it tastes like Triscuits only less salty and more crumbly.

With all the LOTR mechandising, I'm surprised PJ didn't license his movie version of lembas to some bakery. If the Harry Potter franchise has those disgusting jelly beans, why not some lembas?

I like the DC military comics, too, at least the ones I read (never read The Losers but I like the issues of Sgt. Rock and Unknown Soldier I've read). Of the Marvels you mention that I didn't mention before, I read FF pretty regularly up to about #250, until shortly after Byrne took over, I think; and Dr. Strange and Iron Man and Avengers off and on (I liked the Avengers lineup of around issues #100-175 or so best). Read a few issues of Elfquest as well as the Pini shorts they used to put in the back of Dragon magazine.

Hey now! Don't you be dissing Boromir!! ;o)

I personally like Boromir okay, but I was teasing RosieCotton and JenB because I know they secretly prefer Bakshi's Miniskirted Boromir to Faramir :)

LOL! I was actually wondering before if anyone had thought to post a recipe for lembas :) We could have a lembas recipe competition! :)

Heading to bed soon here, so good night all!

Youmean Viking!Boromir with the Double Horns of Gondor!? Say no more!

I am on a quest to convert people to Pippin!Love. Am not entirely settled with how Jackson and Boyens treated the two 'extra' hobbits (Tolkien didnt think they were "extra"!!)

One need read the little exchange between Pippin and Gandalf at Rivendell when Frodo wakes up after the Weathertop incident to get a full feel for the hobbit. Too funny for words.

Anyway, sorry I missed Wneighbor! Am hoping someone is still hanging around...
