The Hobbit Hole VI - And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

Posted on 01/31/2004 9:52:08 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Yes, obviously that was the child of Satan -- the AntiChrist -- the one that was to come as the opposite of the Christ. It was interposed with shots of Christ suffering and his mother watching, while the androgyenous Satan was coddling (almost looked like suckling) his own warped offspring in his arms.

OK, I gotta get to bed. Having trouble keeping my eyes open again.

A night owl I am not!

Good night, all!

If that was the case, though, why would Gimli have mistaken it for cram?

Ummm, uh. . .I dunno :) Because Gimli's a dwarf and all elf-food tastes alike to him, maybe? Actually I think because Gimli did that, whenever I think of lembas it reminds me of the taste of cram, so it tastes kind of like cram to me. Cram's a little different, though--denser and less crumbly. But I bet if you eat nothing but lembas for weeks on end like Frodo and Sam did it starts to taste like cram anyway! :)

Wow...if he didn't actually mean that he sure popped it in there by accident in a way that immediately makes you think that.

We went to the Passion this afternoon; pleased to report that it is showing on three screens, few empty seats, and lines waiting to get in as we left. We were also surprised to see that there were no advertisements or coming features. The theater went dark and movie commenced.

It was an intense and moving experience for us both. The subtitles were not distracting, in fact, I don't recall consciously reading them.

I did not think the extra touches detracted as some (not here) others have said; the story just flowed as it should have. It was simply inspired cinema.

The physical and mental anguish was there for all to see, it was simply unavoidable and was brought home to me the way the written or spoken word never has.

I am grateful for the opportunity to see this movie, and so thankful that it was made for us to see.

We'd be better off cloning Faramir...

That would solve everybody's problem!--unless the clone turned out to be Boromir. . .

You were in Fiji?

Yeah, when I was in college I spent a summer with a touring music group. Spent about 6 weeks going from coast to coast to coast in the US, then flew to Sydney, Australia for a week, and then to Fiji for a week. Didn't really get to do much sightseeing, as we were doing up to 3 concerts a day, but it was still fun.

I wanna go back to Australia someday, and see the outback. And then go to New Zealand.

We were there in '87; same time they had their bloodless coup; interesting when you think about it, the immigrant Indians won the general election and native Fijians said, hey just a darn minute, it's our country.

We were coming back from a tour of Eastern Australia and New Zealand and the Australian Tourist Commission told us about the coup and offered Hawaii instead of Fiji, several of us said we were not likely to get to Fiji again so we went, not many tourists and outside of a few extra soldiers at the airport, it was a very pleasant time, and Fijians were very glad to see us.

Very cool!

My Dad was in the Navy during WW2, he was on a supply ship in the South Pacific. Fiji and New Zealand were both places he saw; after his ship was sunk by a Japanese sub, he spent the remainder of the war in Australia waiting to be assigned to a new ship. He had a lot of stories to tell about his time there!

LOL! I know what those taste like--those are good :) But to me those taste sweeter and puffier than lembas :)

Those sure aren't lembas...

I'm going to bed. Didn't get much writing in today, sadly - it was a very homework-oriented day - but I did achieve one goal of having 15,000 words of this story written. Tomorrow maybe I can at least finish this chapter.

Yeah, its an interesting ethnic mix there. There's the native Fijians, and the Indians were originally brought in to work the plantations. We were housed by the Fijians themselves, and the best part of the trip was just getting to visit with them in their homes. They even treated us to a native feast... lots of fresh fish and seafood, including roasted sea slug (which I wasn't brave enough to try).

I didn't get time to take many pictures, but most of the ones I did get turned out pretty good!
