Carry and Ammunition Suggestions for Condition Orange (Freeper Suggestions-Vanity)

Well folks, it's that time of year again. Tom Ridge and the people at DHS have received the analysis of the chatter gathered by NRO, DIA, and other assorted alphabet agencies and it appears that the Rags have decided to do the whole Grinch thing.
Naturally, Americans can be an awfully accomodating bunch, in that 72 virgins kind of way, so I was wondering that given that the threat board just went to orange, what are the Best Practices for carry, ammunition, and accessories during this period. In other words, are you stuck with your 9mm when you're going about your Christmas shopping, or should one carry the 12 guage in the gun rack.
I'm serious, folks. I'm not being facetious. It only sounds that way. I have been expecting terrorists to make guerilla style attacks and acts of sabotage in the U.S. for two years now as an expression of Islamic "manhood". Unfortunately for them, there's something called the Second Amendment. So this thread is for practical suggestions for carry and concealment, choice of firearms and ammunition in a low intensity warfare environment, and of course, best practices for small unit tactics in case you run into the Madrass Jihad for Allah (as opposed to, say, the Campus Crusade for Christ).
Be Seeing You,
Chris

A hit with a .22 beats a miss with a .45.
Right, just ask the Israel intel. 22 baretta weapon of choice at close range.

Lot of talk about brands and all but haven't seen much about fit. I know I'll get flamed but this something I was taught many years ago.
When I want to see how well a gun fits me, or to get used to the feel, I'll get in a comfortable position with handgun(it has to be where you can get a sight picture easily) and pick out an object and aim at it freehand(of course it's unloaded) and being careful not to move the pistol and aim point I then take a look to see where the thing is pointing.
I know many of you will have negative posts but this has served me well over the years, for one you may not always have the luxury of having time to aim.
Same thing with shotguns. Pick out and object and close your eyes and point, check where you're aiming, if you're way off it doesn't fit you. If you're close that'll work for a shotgun.
I haven't seen this discussed before but like I say it has served me well over the last 50 years.
Not trying to be a Wyatt Earp but practice, practice and practice helps me be a good shooter. Drives my daughters crazy when I make them do it but you'd be surprised how good you can get with a piece that fits you. FWIW.
Shoot straight and shoot often.

I always wondered if I was the only one who staggered my shotgun ammo. I usually keep the same config as you except I don't use slugs (my shotgun won't take them).

This Black Bart not only had a gang, they all wore striped prison outfits.
Of course I know the real one wrote poetry and was caught because they traced the laundry mark on his handkerchief.

SO FAR, some real nice suggestions and contributions, although this thread has come perilously close to a Glock vs. 1911 or .357 debate. My nomination for best post so far has to go to NMFXSTC for his rundown of what he carries when he goes shopping for groceries:
Winchester 120 Pump with plug removed and loaded with #4, #2, #4, #2...real close to the bedside...Ruger Security Sic .357 Mag with 158 grain JHP Home Defender ammo and an extra speeloader full of same...Beretta Model 96 Inox .40 S&W, Federal Home Defender JHPs...two mags full...and for easy carry and conceal (law be damned!), a Bersa Thunder .380 loaded with 90 grain JHPs. In the cabinet: Marlin 336CS 30/30 with 170 grains, Savage 110E with remingtom Hi-Shok 180s, Remmington ADL .270 with 170 grain Hi-Shocks, a sweet Lanbar 12 Ga O/u (it ain't loaded...that's my ringbeck gun!), and an older 20 Ga. pump, two .22 LRs...a Ruger with 50 round banana clip, and a Marlin Model 60 tube fed...both accurate.
I do NOT want to be the jihadist goombah who gets on the wrong side of the law in Mr. NMFXSTC's neighborhood. No Muppets, no Peace!
No Mr. Freaking Rogers here!

Chris

Sumpin tells me this could degenerate into a brand/caliber war thread real quick. Nah, everyone knows, deep in their hearts that .45 and .308 are the only way to go.

You're not alone. When I was active duty USAF, the officers in my unit were issued shotguns (Mossbergs) and the ammo and instructed to stagger the ammo. We were a medical unit and didn't need offensive weapons. The security detail had M-16's.

My holiday accessories include the scrumptuous Beretta 92F stuffed with CorBon +P 115gr JHP. If company's coming, the Mossberg 500 with #4 shot in a 3" magnum load makes an excellent yuletide greeting.

Speaking of the .22lr, here's an anecdote about a doctor over in NW Arkansas who might or might not agree with you. Seems that up in NE Okrahoma, some bad-assed ex-con lost it and killed his ex-girl-friend's parents, and was looking for her. He was actually hiding out in the woods near a small airport in that part of the state while half the law enforcement in the state were searching that one half-section of land for him, so it seemed.
Anyway, he evaded the manhunt, stole a car, and made his way over to NW Arkansas where he car-jacked the van being driven by the Dr. and his wife. He told the Dr. that he was headed for death row in the Ok. State pen, and had nothing to lose by killing him and his wife. The Dr. and his wife calmed each other by humming their favorite hymns to each other, until finally the Dr. (I forget his name, there's probably a thread to the incident around here somewhere...) convinced the guy that he needed to "go".
At which time he was able to retrieve his little .22 revolver from the passenger side door. He fired eight times, hitting the @$$#0le four times. The badguy, who was truly a big, bad dude, pistol-whipped the Dr. because his cheapo .380 jammed. But he got the worst of it; he drove away in the van and went to the ER with a story about having been robbed. He's back in OK. in jail, now. The Dr. and his wife are hopefully having a happy, thankful Christmas.
True story.

Will this do? Sig Sauer P220 Stainless .45 ACP.
It's a little heavy, but the Sig is one of the best fitting/shooting guns I've ever tried (I used to own a Glock 17 and it was awkward, even with the Hogue grip I bought).

And now for my official honest answer - A lot depends on how much you want to spend, but here are my suggestions in no apparent order. Caliber-wise - nothing smaller than a .38 special in revolvers or a 9 mm in autos. I prefer the .357 revolvers and the .45 autos, but the .38 +p works well, as does the .40 cal auto. The only reason I avoid the 9 mm is that the French use them. Its so Euro... It really isn't a bad round, but I don't have any mm guns.
For brands, if you choose a revolver, Smith and Wesson, Colt, Dan Wesson, Ruger are all good brands. I have never bought a Taurus, but their reputation is pretty good as well. Personally, I'd rather have a used 'Smith or Colt than a new Taurus but I will admit that I'm a sucker for a good old blued surface. For autos, anything 1911 is nice, usually. Glocks are very reliable, and Sigs are reported to be as well. Beretta makes a decent Auto, as does Smith and Wesson. Brownings are highly regarded among autos.
Your budget has a lot to do with what you buy. In general, revolvers will give you more bang for your buck, though with reduced ammo capicity. There are a lot of cheap revolvers out there that are very good. Look for a reputable brand.

I remember that story being posted on FR. I didn't know the gun was a .22 tho.
There are all kind of accounts of people being shot multiple times with many different calibers. There are also plenty about people being shot with a .25 in the arm and dying quickly.
If I knew I were going to be in a gunfight and had to use a pistol it would probably be one of the 7 shot .357's with several speed loaders. I would be about as happy with a 1911 and a bunch of spares or a Browning Hp or a Sig 226.
Still I would about as soon have a .22lr as anything less than a 9mm.

Hey I'm here to learn !....What do "you" carry and why ?I usually carry my Glock 27. Why? Because it packs a decent punch in a relatively small package. Plus, I have night sights on it as well as several magazines. I'm not likely to run out of ammo with it. Its very accurate as well, particularly when you consider its size.
Occasionally, I carry Mexican with my Colt Officer's model just for a change of taste. And, I have a Detective Special that I've carred twice - its pretty doggone concealable as well. They both shoot reliably, but I'm not as accurate with either one of them.
