Carry and Ammunition Suggestions for Condition Orange (Freeper Suggestions-Vanity)
The Usual Suspects ^

Well folks, it's that time of year again. Tom Ridge and the people at DHS have received the analysis of the chatter gathered by NRO, DIA, and other assorted alphabet agencies and it appears that the Rags have decided to do the whole Grinch thing.
Naturally, Americans can be an awfully accomodating bunch, in that 72 virgins kind of way, so I was wondering that given that the threat board just went to orange, what are the Best Practices for carry, ammunition, and accessories during this period. In other words, are you stuck with your 9mm when you're going about your Christmas shopping, or should one carry the 12 guage in the gun rack.
I'm serious, folks. I'm not being facetious. It only sounds that way. I have been expecting terrorists to make guerilla style attacks and acts of sabotage in the U.S. for two years now as an expression of Islamic "manhood". Unfortunately for them, there's something called the Second Amendment. So this thread is for practical suggestions for carry and concealment, choice of firearms and ammunition in a low intensity warfare environment, and of course, best practices for small unit tactics in case you run into the Madrass Jihad for Allah (as opposed to, say, the Campus Crusade for Christ).
Be Seeing You,
Chris

I carry a S & W titanium .357 magnum, far lighter and reliable than any auto loader, plus I use Speer gold dot ammo. This combo will out perform anything out there in a close quarter street scenario.

I'm hitting the road Christmas afternoon for a 600 mile drive to visit the family. I usually carry the trusty Glock 27 in .40 S&W, but this time, I'm carrying a backup as well - my Colt Detective Special .38 with Remington +P hollowpoints and a speedloader along with my usual Glock. I considered carrying a .44 mag, but it just wasn't practical for CCW.
I'll also have a digital camera, my cell phone with extra battery, my scanner, a CB radio, my small GPS reciever and my radar detector. I'm bringing all the toys, plus a car full of gifts.

Depends where you live. In most of the northeast, being caught with a piece will bring more trouble down on your head than all the filthy diaper headed nutjobs in the history of earth could ever bring you. So I guess that means something small.
If its a situation where you absolutely can't get caught, something small and cheap might be ideal. An older Ruger, S&W, Colt, or Dan Wesson revolver might be appropriate in that case. They're all functionally good. And they are all very nice if in good condition. But if you find one with plenty of holster wear and some external scratches that is still functionally good, it will be a fine weapon that will last for years.
It doesn't hurt to have a throwaway weapon, provided you don't get caught "throwing away".

Nice to see Willie Green in top form, as usual, btw. Maybe we can turn this into a mass transit thread so he can feel at home. Be Seeing You,

Agree....... I learned as to what I would need by just walking out to the alley and shutting off the water and then the main power to the house. Small things like a wood stove , baygen radio with the LED light and lots of progresso soup have merit. I figure that terrorism will not hit me or my town but it's implications are already upon me and my small town with the mere threat. That threat of federal goobermint bean counters and alphabet agencies making me and mine stand in line for a handout led me to prepare my dwelling for self reliance and off grid survivablilty.
I also have an old VW baja bug that I converted to propane use. Propane can be stored forever and not go bad. My gensets work off the same propane. But I have no plans to travel at all but if I do have to go about locally my bicycle, my KLR650 or that little Baja bug have great range and everlasting durability.
A lot of comfort can be drawn from a warm fire, a small alert pup and a 12 gauge when individual security is questionable. All said and done I can do more service to my country these days with my digital camera and a cellular phone when I see something suspect as I PROFILE suspect activity. The firearm I carry is just in case they get bitchy or catch me taking their pic and such and I can't E & E my way out of danger.

I also like .22's especially the long rifle round.
I think it is under-rated even by those who like it. I have seen my Father kill hogs and cows so many times with a .22. They literally drop like they were poleaxed.
I remember reading an article maybe 30 years ago by Russell Annabell in Sports Afield. He was an old Alaska Sourdough and was caught leading a couple of pack mules by a She Wolf and a bunch of her yearling pups. He sat down against his backpack and used his Colt Woodsman to shoot and kill several and the rest left.
He commented that they ought to build a monument to the .22, and I agree.
They really do kill and not just several days later like a lot of gun writers like to say. They will kill quickly if the shot is well placed.

I also suggest buying a bunch of disposable cameras. I don't always have my digital camera with me. Disposable cameras are cheap enough that you can throw one in the glove box, one in the briefcase or purse, one in the desk drawer, etc. One even came in handy about a year ago when I was in an auto accident (not my fault--I swear!). I took the pictures for insurance purposes right away.
They are something one can carry legally in a state that doesn't allow concealed carry.
Of course, if the SHTF, you will want something with a little more lead content.

No question that an individual's chances of confronting some terrorist type and stopping an event are very slim, but there's also no question that the knowledge of a well armed citizenry impacts the jihadi's planning and execution. Thankfully we're not yet in the same boat as the Euros.

USMC Rules For Gunfighting
(Navy rules much shorter at the end)
1. Bring a gun. Preferably, bring at least two guns. Bring all of your
friends who have guns.
2. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammo is cheap. Life
is expensive.
3. Only hits count. The only thing worse than a miss is a slow miss.
4. If your shooting stance is good, you're probably not moving fast
enough nor using cover correctly.
5. Move away from your attacker. Distance is your friend. (Lateral and
diagonal movements are preferred.)
6. If you can choose what to bring to a gunfight, bring a long gun and a
friend with a long gun.
7. In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance, or
tactics. They will only remember who lived.
8. If you are not shooting, you should be communicating, reloading, and
running.
9. Accuracy is relative: most combat shooting standards will be more
dependent on "pucker factor" than the inherent accuracy of the gun.
10. Use a gun that works EVERY TIME.
11. Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have
to beat you to death with it because it is empty.
12. Always cheat; always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose.
13. Have a plan.
14. Have a back-up plan, because the first one won't work.
15. Use cover or concealment as much as possible.
16. Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours.
17. Don't drop your guard.
18. Always tactical load and threat scan 360 degrees.
19. Watch their hands. Hands kill. (In God we trust. Everyone else, keep
your hands where I can see them).
20. Decide to be aggressive ENOUGH, quickly ENOUGH.
21. The faster you finish the fight, the less shot up you will get.
22. Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you
meet.
23. Be courteous to everyone, friendly to no one.
24. Do not attend a gunfight with a handgun, the caliber of which does
not start with a "4."
Navy Rules for Gunfighting
1. Go to Sea
2. Send the Marines
3. Drink Coffee
