Speaking of the .22lr, here's an anecdote about a doctor over in NW Arkansas who might or might not agree with you. Seems that up in NE Okrahoma, some bad-assed ex-con lost it and killed his ex-girl-friend's parents, and was looking for her. He was actually hiding out in the woods near a small airport in that part of the state while half the law enforcement in the state were searching that one half-section of land for him, so it seemed.

Anyway, he evaded the manhunt, stole a car, and made his way over to NW Arkansas where he car-jacked the van being driven by the Dr. and his wife. He told the Dr. that he was headed for death row in the Ok. State pen, and had nothing to lose by killing him and his wife. The Dr. and his wife calmed each other by humming their favorite hymns to each other, until finally the Dr. (I forget his name, there's probably a thread to the incident around here somewhere...) convinced the guy that he needed to "go".

At which time he was able to retrieve his little .22 revolver from the passenger side door. He fired eight times, hitting the @$$#0le four times. The badguy, who was truly a big, bad dude, pistol-whipped the Dr. because his cheapo .380 jammed. But he got the worst of it; he drove away in the van and went to the ER with a story about having been robbed. He's back in OK. in jail, now. The Dr. and his wife are hopefully having a happy, thankful Christmas.

True story.

I remember that story being posted on FR. I didn't know the gun was a .22 tho.

There are all kind of accounts of people being shot multiple times with many different calibers. There are also plenty about people being shot with a .25 in the arm and dying quickly.

If I knew I were going to be in a gunfight and had to use a pistol it would probably be one of the 7 shot .357's with several speed loaders. I would be about as happy with a 1911 and a bunch of spares or a Browning Hp or a Sig 226.

Still I would about as soon have a .22lr as anything less than a 9mm.
