.................................................................
The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.
FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.
I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

Got a fraggo of something that is based on a song that has been playing..
Here without you
Shed tears across the screen
And you haunt me every night in dreams
Here without you
My mind rewinds across this scene
And this night fades out in history

Good Morning, Meekie!!
It appears that today will be another hit and miss day for me. The grand niece is here until about 1:30 and she continues to demand as much attention as I'm giving this computer.
Thanks for bringing refills for everyone. Have a wonderful day.

Thank you so much Cowboy.
Living to be 112 ... hmmm ... could be interesting if I have any sense left at that time. My senior moments are getting more frequent. LOL
I had a couple of great-aunts and uncles that celebrated more than 75 years together. Isn't that wonderful. One on my Mom's side and one on my Dad's. Both couples were still very alert and active.

OK, you're on! Renga or "linked verse" is Japanese poetry
whereby people take turns adding lines or verses.
One types 7 (or 5) syllables -- not words -- in a line,
which is in turn completed by another person.
Poems can branch off in multiple lines to
form a "kika" or "branched verse".
Tao of the Renga
crystals form like fallen ferns
fond memories flirting in time
gone the green essence of life
fine fronds weaving with the wind
feathery wisps of lace blend
with blue skies and autumn hues
light peers through, distant, haunting
an eery pause to reflect
our spirit seeks elusive truths
silence merely mocks with smiles
we yearn to hear the message
only sorrows pierce the calm
mendacious tendrils fracture
truth sighs yet gives no quarter
filaments smoke and flicker
vend change in dimes and nickles

SILENCE IN THE DESERT
There's the majesty of the mountain
And the wonder of the sea,
But the silence in the desert
Is more meaningful to me.
There is sunlight on the mountain,
And the moonlight on the sea
But the starlight in the desert
Is more beautiful to me.
O God thunders on the mountain,
His storm breaks upon the sea,
But His silence in the desert
Is more powerful to me.

Tony Roma's Corn Fritter Casserole
Notes: This casserole is wonderful with bar-be-que, chicken, or pork chops.
Ingredients:
2 Boxes Jiffy Corn Bread Mix
1 Can Whole Kernel Corn Drained (14.5 -15 oz can)
2 Eggs Beaten
2/3 C. Milk
1/2 C. Onions (finely diced)
1/2 C. Green Bell Pepper (finely diced)
2 Tbs. Butter
3 Chicken Bouillon Cubes
1 + 1/3 C. Warm Water
3 Tbs. Melted Butter
Salt and Freshly Ground Pepper (to taste)
Preparation:
In a medium size bowl mix together the Jiffy mix, drained corn, beaten eggs and milk. In a non-stick fry pan on medium high heat, add just enough vegetable oil to coat bottom of fry pan.
Drop a serving size spoon full of corn fritter mix in fry pan. Do not let Corn fritter patties touch one another while frying. Cook on each side until lightly golden. When done place on paper towel to drain. You may need to add more oil while frying all of the corn fritters. When fritters have been completed let cool on paper towels.
In fry pan add 2 Tbs. of butter, place onions and bell pepper in fry pan. Sauté on medium low heat until onions are transparent. Remove fry pan from heat and set aside.
Place chicken bouillon cubes in 1+1/3 C. of water and dissolve.
In large bowl crumble corn fritters, add sautéed onions and bell peppers, add 3 Tbs. melted butter. Pour dissolved chicken bouillon and water mixture over corn and sautéed vegetables and mix well.
Place mixture in well oiled 8"x 8" baking pan and cover with foil. Place in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 20 - 25 minutes. Remove foil and place back in oven for 10 - 15 minutes.

I have no clue what I am doing, but it
is kind of fun. At least I am getting the number of syllables right, I think. LOL.
Amy, try your hand at this, add on to the Renga.
