.................................................................
The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.
FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.
I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

A Winter Ride
Who shall declare the joy of the running!
Who shall tell of the pleasures of flight!
Springing and spurning the tufts of wild heather,
Sweeping, wide-winged, through the blue dome of light.
Everything mortal has moments immortal,
Swift and God-gifted, immeasurably bright.
So with the stretch of the white road before me,
Shining snowcrystals rainbowed by the sun,
Fields that are white, stained with long, cool, blue shadows,
Strong with the strength of my horse as we run.
Joy in the touch of the wind and the sunlight!
Joy! With the vigorous earth I am one.

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE... It's a wonderful day, does anyone have coffee for a chef?
I'll make the new diet pancakes. This way everyone can start the day with a full tummy.. :)
Hold on to your hats, this is one you're gonna want to try. Trust me on this one..... memorable!
LowCarb Sour Cream Pancakes
- 1/2 cup soy flour
- 1/4cup Splenda
- 1/4tsp. Baking Soda
- 2 ea Eggs
- 1 cup Sour Cream
Mix everything into batter.
Cook as you would regular pancake, only slightly longer before turning.
2-3 servings, doubles easily for 4 good eaters, you'll need it...sooo good.

If you look out your window, you can wave to some of us on the way to Tallahassee.
Not exactly a game I'm looking forward to; they seemed pretty upset last week in Death Valley........LOL!

BTW, GO DAWGS!!!!

Thanks for remembering your brother Gary here, Colleen. Losing a sibling is tough. I lost a sister when she was 18 and I was 20. Automobile, so many young people lose their lives this way. I also lost a nephew in a motorcycle accident.

Good morning, Carlo.
Those pancakes sound wonderful ... you must have known I would be starving when I finally got here this morning.
Russ ... will you get the Chef a cup of coffee, please?
Meekie ... will you ask Carl to keep the refills coming.
Thank you!

Since I was pinged to this thread, I should contribute if I can. Below are the opening lines of a book I am about to complete, on Thomas Paine. The essence of the book is to compare Paine's observations two centuries ago, with events today. But it also demonstrates what no one prior has discovered, that Paine wrote his works in the heroic measure (or iambic pentameter).
These are the times....
These are the times that try men's souls.
The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will,
In this crisis, shrink from the service of their country;
But he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks
Of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell,
Is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us,
That the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph.
What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly:
It is dearness only that gives every thing its value.
Opening paragraph, The American Crisis I, Thomas Paine, 1790.
