.................................................................
The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.
FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.
I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

I,IN THE ARCHIVES OF MY ROOM
I, in the archives of my room
in musty smell of
ancient traditions
reflect the sympathies of
lost people
bear the heartbreak of
dead children
of cold winters
of useless governments
I who am lost yet
knowing the fair wind
check the clouds and
currents for direction
it is all in the mind
I keep telling myself
I have come to heal with
this shaman's heart
I create and I kill
symbolically
and tomorrow comes
with its light
but right now it is
this night that I hold
at arm's length
lest it consume me

CROW LAUGHED
Crow laughed and mocked me
He sitting smug in his grandfather tree
But I was immune to his cunning
I had been taught of the river and sea
And the way of the raven and crow
Salmon thought to hide in the dark
He didn't like the sealions bark
He wondered of my fires glow
And ringlets left by quiet oars
The black bear on the island
That old one with the devil's heart
The one who knew the crow as well as I
Would share the morning star with me
Would eat his salmon on a mossy shore
While alder smoke prepared us for winter
And sassy crow would laugh again
Knowing he had more than his fair share
Watching fat and naughty from his perch
while bear and I washed the salmon's
blood that stained our hands.

One of my favorites by Frost...
MY NOVEMBER GUEST
My Sorrow, when she's here with me,
Thinks these dark days of autumn rain
Are beautiful as days can be;
She loves the bare, the withered tree;
She walks the sodden pasture lane.
Her pleasure will not let me stay.
She talks and I am fain to list:
She's glad the birds are gone away,
She's glad her simple worsted grey
Is silver now with clinging mist.
The desolate, deserted trees,
The faded earth, the heavy sky,
The beauties she so truly sees,
She thinks I have no eye for these,
And vexes me for reason why.
Not yesterday I learned to know
The love of bare November days
Before the coming of the snow,
But it were vain to tell her so,
And they are better for her praise
Robert Frost

Two more wonderful poems ..... Thank you.
I enjoyed both tremendously, but my favorite is Crow Laughed.
Crow Laughed kinda touched something deep inside.
Thank you for sharing them with us.

Afternoon friends. Hope everyone is having a nice weekend.
The Stage of Life
Like a poet once wrote, all the world is a stage
And all of mankind is the cast
In the play that God fashioned at dawn of creation
For the present, the future, and past.
For each of the players a role was designed
As an integral part of the whole
But the actors rebelled from the parts God assigned
And arranged for themselves a new role.
So many attempted for the lead roles to take
Urged on by ambition and greed
Upsetting the balance and goals of the play
Intent on their egos to feed.
The actors on stage will continue the play
But not via plans God would deign
Through the smoke of confusion it now can be seen
That the specter of chaos doth reign.
Will the play eer return to the plans that were made
By God for the good of Mankind?
Perhaps for the answer we'll all have to wait
Til the last act is over to find.
