.................................................................

The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.

FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.

I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

I forgot to include in post #60 that Laressa Cox McBurney was my grandmother's half-sister.

I wanted to brag a little for those that may have missed that bit of info yesterday. LOL

When we lived in central Texas I used to watch the quail beneath the mesquite in the heat of a summer afternoon and decided to try my hand at a little haiku.

Quail rest in shade, where
            leaves won’t stop the heat
or the beat of a wing.

Pumpkin Pie! One of my all-time favorites. One word of advice (learned the hard way...) - don't whip the pie filling ingredients or you'll get pumpkin CHIFFON pie! Hahahahahaha! Yep, done that. Ate it anyway! :)

A Psalm of Life

by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

...Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
Is our destined end or way;
But to act, that each tomorrow
Find us farther than today....

Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time.

Footprints, that perhaps another,
Sailing o'er life's solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing, shall take heart again...

Got something floating in my head, but as yet it's 'unformed'.
You know, that annoying wraith-like 'pre-draft' version of a poem that tickles the mind and let's you know it's there, but never let's you grab or embrace it?
Got one floating out there in the mind fog teasing me.

Feeling edgy, a man took a hot bath.

Just as he became comfortable, the doorbell rang. The man got out of the tub, put on his slippers and robe and went to the door.

A salesman at the door wanted to know if he needed any brushes. Slamming the door, the man returned to the bath.

The doorbell rang again. On went the slippers and robe, and the man started for the door again. He took one step, slipped on a wet spot, fell backward, and hit his back against the hard porcelain bathtub.

Cursing under his breath, the man struggled into his street clothes and with every move a stab of pain, drove to the doctor.

After examining him, the doctor said, "You know, you've been lucky. Nothing is broken. But you need to relax... Why don't you go home and take a long hot bath?"

Lyrics fragment that states how I sometimes feel about relationships
Band: Orgy
Song: Stitches

If it stayed I'd never leave it
If that turned around I'd grieve it
The special dirty things that we used to talk about
I mean that loving you is strange and adored by me throughout
Oh No It's you again
Someday soon you'll find that someone waiting for the chance to beat you
Drooling on the set to feel you
Blessing you with every kiss
Chorus:
Tying your self to me Stitch up my emptiness
'Cause your the death of me
So precious, Loving the thrill

Nevermind the rest of the song, it continues on in the same vein, and worse..
