Hopefully, someone out there in FR Land can help me with a UPS Worldship problem.
Last weekend the Shipping computer at one of my IT client's just up and died.
I wasn't really worried since I do a daily iDrive backup every evening.
So I purchased a new computer, got it set up, and after jumping through the usual hoops with UPS, I got Worldship installed. Next up, was to install the UPS database (address, past invoices, etc.) from my iDrive backup file.
I've done this before when I was upgrading machines where you just use the Worldship program to export the database on the old machine and then import it on the new machine. Easy Peasy.
But no matter how I Googled it, I found nothing telling me how to do this from a backup file.
So very reluctantly I got on the phone to UPS Support and after 1:45 minutes on hold, got Rajesh. And Rajesh, after hearing my problem, told me that there is no way to do this. You can only export from the old system and import to the new one. And he had no answer about why this wasn't doable.
Seems pretty obvious to me. I just can't believe that this is not possible
So before I get in another multi-hour phone queue to double-check Rajesh, I thought I would throw it out to the FR world.
Anyone have any ideas on this?
The backup/restore menu doesn’t see the file?
Not fun...
As a lark, have you tried asking ChatGPT?
Just waiting for the “switch to Linux” post.
Looks like you have to back it up from WorldShip, so unless you did that I guess you’re out of luck.

Worldship died on my shipping department’s computers a couple of times and your case sounds like what happened to me.
Rebuild from scratch.
Getting them new PCs instead of hand me downs was another adventure.
You would think there would be a cloud option by now.
Fedex Ship manager was the same when it died.
I always had to get FedEx support to tweak the printers and custom logos for labels.
FedEx support runs rings around UPS.
That was basically my question to him. I presumed that he’d run the gamut of instructions. It’s been a long time since I’ve done this, but a troublesome web reference to ‘Worldship Support Utility’ leads me to believe that they changed the file format for import, mandating use of their utility, likely to something proprietary.
At least that was my cursory read, particularly if the navigation doesn’t recognize his file.
(ignoring, of course, the variables of compressed and whether the file was on the local hd)
If this is the case, it’s a lesson for others using the program, myself included re future use.
I was absolutely furious at being given the wrong QR codes. The young lady helping me was apologetic, as I told her I had taken a couple boxes from my neighbor's garbage can as a fit way to return these items, just please send me a shipping label. I was so angry at this unnecessary complication, when I didn't feel well, that I told her they were lucky I didn't use dirty cat litter to cushion the lampshades instead of bubble wrap. She was rather amused by this and thanked me. After she sent me the mailing labels in email, I taped up those sorry looking boxes and took them to a nearby neighborhood mailing depot.
By hook or crook, I got the job done, UPS and Amazon be ***ed.
Because the retore function only contains the data, but if there is no existing DB, it doesn't know what to do with just the data & no DB present.
Give that a try.
I have never before seen an absentee poster with tech help request.
Shameful.
No wonder he got so much ‘help’ from Rajesh. /s
Nope. It's looking for the file extension of the backup file, not the database.
Not Yet, but getting higher on the list.
It's talking about restoring a backup file generated by the Worldship program, like when you're moving from one computer to another, not from the database itself.
I noted that in the post following that one.

An 'absentee poster'. What is that?
I have posted a number of times in the last few days on completely different topics.
No, I don't post a lot, but I've been around here since the Clinton days when the Page Header was "Topic: Whitewater.
How long have you been on FR?
You posted ‘help’...
...and then disappeared.
“Absentee poster”
G’day. /s
I posted about 5:30 pm CDT and then, after being up for over 18 hours working on this for client, I went to bed.
When I got up this morning, I immediately started answering and replying to posters.
Sorry. Didn’t realized I was offending the ‘posting police.’
Sarcastic apology noted.
G’day, mate!
It's really funny that you think that was an apology!
