Our Salem colleague Dennis Prager, who's an absolute legend in the world of conservative media, talk radio, and truth-telling, was seriously injured last Tuesday in a fall at his home, and has been hospitalized since that time. We've all been praying for Dennis to have a speedy recovery since the moment we heard the news.

On Sunday afternoon Julie Hartman, Dennis' podcast partner on "The Dennis and Julie Show," provided an update on Dennis' condition. She revealed that Dennis had surgery following his fall and that, "This is not a 'he will be back next week' situation. This is a long haul and a long recovery for Dennis."
Hartman expressed deep gratitude for the millions of prayers that have been uttered on Prager's behalf since Tuesday and the many messages of well-wishes she and Prager's producer, Allen Estrin, have received and urged people to continue those prayers, saying, "Every day we have seen modest improvements."
Rabbi Michael Barclay wrote a wonderful piece about Dennis and the need for prayer over at our sister site PJ Media detailing his accomplishments. This passage struck me:
As many people already know, Dennis Prager had a serious back injury last Tuesday that has put his entire way of life in jeopardy. As a conservative leader and educator, this nation needs people like Dennis to facilitate our nation's return to greatness. And so, it is our obligation and privilege to each pray in our own way for his complete and speedy healing.
Most people know Dennis because of his writings in places like PJ Media, his many books and lectures, his daily radio show, or because of Prager U. But like many public figures, we forget that he is also a man with a family, friendships, passions, and feelings. It's easy to forget that he is more than just a thinker and cigar smoker.
It is important in our prayers to remember that this is a human being with emotions like everyone else. He demonstrates his caring for the world with his mind and actions, but we need to pray for the healing of the man, not just the public figure.

Prager's nationally-syndicated radio show is heard on 400 radio stations and on iHeart Radio and TuneIn. He's the founder of Prager University (PragerU), the most viewed conservative video site in the world, with one billion views a year, more than half by people under the age of 35. He's a true Renaissance Man:
As Dennis continues his journey to recovery, with his wife by his side, all of us at RedState, Townhall Media, and Salem Media Group will be praying continuously.
If the cause of his fall turns out to be something stupid which could save another from a fall - such as one of my parents - well...I can’t type the words which come to mind without being punished.
“Oversharing”
smh
The number of people on this earth who read about someone falling in the shower and decide "Maybe I should invest in some nonslip humorous adhesive ducks for the shower" is pretty much zero.
And your holding your dad up to public scorn is a bit much. I understand you are mad at him for some reason but still it is not nice.
But you will do as you will.
That would be Sowell. But Prager is uniquely gifted, imaginative, and productive.
“public scorn”
Judge not, hypocrite.

Pardon me for laughing, but that is really funny. I hope he hasn't seriously hurt himself.
My dad fell down the stairs when he was in his late 60s or 70ish and survived. He was an alcoholic and I figured that played a big role in his fall. I took a nasty fall on a hiking trail this summer. My old trail shoes were worn out and had no tread left. Hit a patch of small "marbles" (small 1/8 inch round stones) on a steep downhill section and down I went -- instantly. It happens so fast that all you can think of in mid-flight is "uh oh, this won't be good."
These are definite wake-up calls.
We still enjoy hiking in places where you find signs like this, though...
You should know he has a long previous history of debilitating back injury and back surgery. A fall that would not be so bad for a healthy person could be catastrophic in his case. They might be being vague because it's extremely hard to predict the outcome in cases like this. Maybe he broke some of his previously fused vertebrae. Who knows?
Thanks for posting the update.
They should consider carrying a phone or another electronic signaller. On Androids, at least, you can enable an option where if you press the power button five times rapidly it will call 911 with your e-location info. Of course, you have to be able to reach the phone and manipulate it.
“How can a shower fall be so serious? Doesn’t make sense.”
I have a friend who fell in his kitchen smashed his face against the marble counter on the way down and really messed up his jaw. It’s been one thing after another since that fall.
I fell down a ladder and ended up with a Collis fracture to my wrist which is basically a shattered wrist...
18 months later I was wearing Crocs, I slept on a curb came down on the edge of the curb and detached my quad tendon from my kneecap... after a total of about 3 years of physical therapy being laid up and everything.. I’m not 70% of what I used to be. And both spills happened at the blink of an eye. And I was sober both times. I developed balance problems, which I have continuously doing therapy for, and I also do therapy for my knee which is better and my wrist which left my hand at about 75% of what he used to be. There’s a lot of tension in that hand and I don’t have a strong grip in that hand any longer.
It’s pretty easy to screw yourself up in a split second; trust me.
Age. You can hurt yourself sleeping as you get older. He’s no Spring Chicken. Prayers up!
Hoss
On the first day of vacation was carrying luggage up the steps to our beach house and slipped. Tore all four tendons in my right rotator cuff as well as my bicep (I'm right handed). Had surgery in August, PT since September, Still not fully recovered. Missing hunting season this year. Really sucks.
May God bless Dennis with his complete recovery and return to duty.
Our daughter studied in Italy in high school and stayed with the most wonderful host family. A few years after her time there, her Italian “dad” was working on a plumbing problem at a neighbor’s house (he was a plumber), took a fall off a step ladder, hit the concrete floor and died.
Exactly. Vague press releases serve little purpose.
I’m 62 and we stayed at an AirBnB in Oregon. Came close to falling in the shower. Not enough to leave a negative but sent owner private message saying if I had fell & hurt myself, I would own his home. Not that I would really do that but for $10 you can get slip proof stickers for the tub bottom.
Years ago, I had a buddy who had a hen pecked wife who insisted that he put up Christmas decorations on their two story house. He fell off the ladder and his leg caught in a rung and snapped it. Two months later, she filed for divorce.
True but I don’t think Sowell had a talk show?
You wouldn’t own their home because they have insurance and unfortunately unless you are paralyzed an injury isn’t worth as much as you’d like to think.
But I get the idea.
It does if his shower happens to be like ours, with a built in seat covered with tile. If he hit the edge of the seat with his back, he could have some very serious injuries.
