Hello,
I'm planning a trip to Dallas in the next couple of weeks. I know nothing about Dallas so I am relying on your collective experience to help me out.
I plan on making a trip to Dealy Plaza and visit the 6th Floor Museum. Not much of an itinerary but that is what I got.
I plan on being there on a weekday afternoon, spend one full day and fly out the next day.
Looks like Dallas Fort Worth Airport will be my starting point.
Any suggestions on motel/hotel places to stay-no AirBNB, good tourist places to visit during the day?
Any good places to eat, places to avoid? I don't plan on going anywhere after dark.
Does Dealy plaza have a post office so i can mail post cards to family and friends if I can find post cards?
Your thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.
And if you are there during Christmas-time, The ICE Exhibit, at the Gaylord, is a must
And the Hindu Temple. Which is why sometimes I feel like I'm in New Delhi.
I wouldn’t even want a post card (I’m old enough to know what that is) from where an assassination took place. Seems weird.
I was going to take my kid there this summer but I have an aunt in North Carolina who’s become disabled.
Taking the kids to Dollywood then on to NC to care for her for a week.
So if I rented a car from the airport, how do I pay any required tolls? I’ve never been on a toll road before?
I would visit the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens.
You might want to hire a local guide for a quick drive by tour of notable assassination spots — the places where Oswald and his wife lived, where Tippet was shot, Ruby’s Carousel Club, the theater where Oswald was arrested, and so on.
Is there a train terminal at the airport? Maybe I can take that from the airport to Dealy and rent a car/get a place to stay near Dealy Plaza?
You can go onto the NTTA.org website and put your rental license plate number. That will save you some money on tolls.
That’s what I do when I travel to Florida, and I go on the SunPass website to register my rental car.
Don’t pay the rental car company for the tolls, that’s a ripoff.
Did you ever see Dallas from a DC-9 at night?
Yes there is a DART station in Terminal A.
I know you can always take an Uber..
Im sorta familiar with big open spaces since im from NM.
It will just be myself, traveling light.
Amazingly enough, I want to get a T-shirt at Buc-ees so would you tell me which is the closest one to Dealy Plaza?
Yeah I want to take my time there and not rush my visit to the Museum so I will have plenty of time to read the articles.
Sometimes, you can purchase a toll road pass, that will cover the distance that you plan. I would prefer to use cash:
2 rolls of quarters
$50 worth of $1’s and $5’s
Should be well beyond what you would use, except along the northeast coast.
Anybody else around here, could make a better estimate.
Check out the stockyard in Fort Worth, and watch them heard the Longhorns down the middle of the street. Also farther up the street there’s a basement bar that’s walls are completely plastered with dollar bills. People write slogans and stick them on the wall. Every few years they take them down and donate the money to charity. Supposedly the last time they took them down it was over $100,000. The story is the building was a problem, and the basement is where the men would gather and wait to be called upstairs.
Beyond that I'll borrow a saying I once saw about Anchorage and simply say that the best thing about DFW is that it's only about 50 miles from Texas. :)
Quite true,
I like Dallas. It’s one of my favorite big cities.
But, I love Fort Worth. I could live there.
Second this.
Great place to experience some peace and quiet.
