[ 1 Shot = 100 Targets! New British High-Frequency Weapon Wastes Years of Russian Drone Development ]
Today [ Apr 26, 8 pm ], there are a lot of interesting updates from Ukraine. Here, as Russian drone swarms grow larger and more complex, the UK has unveiled a weapon designed to stop them in their tracks in mass. Named the Rapid Destroyer, this new system, with battlefield testing on the horizon, may soon give Ukraine a game-changing tool to level the playing field.
Diplomatic relations between the United Kingdom and Ukraine are likely the best foreign relations Ukraine has with any European country, as the UK was the first country to provide military aid to Ukraine at the very start of the war.
Additionally, the current Ukrainian ambassador to the UK is Valeri Zaluzhny, the former chief of staff of the Ukrainian army, whose military expertise is critical for the continued improvement of military cooperation and exchange of intelligence between the two countries. Military technology between the UK and Ukraine is likely already being exchanged, with the British conducting tests with new laser weapons right before the same technology made an appearance in Ukraine.
Recently, the United Kingdom developed a weapon that could potentially neutralize the drone threat prevalent in Ukraine. This new electronic warfare system Rapid Destroyer can take out entire drone swarms in a single charge.
Unlike regular electronic warfare systems that only disrupt the connection to the operator and disorient the drones’ navigation systems, the new British system relies on high-frequency radio waves to disrupt and destroy the electronic components within the drones, causing them to malfunction and crash. The system can take out dozens of incoming drones at a time, making it highly suited to counteract large-scale Russian drone strikes.
In live trials, the system neutralized a swarm of 100 small quadcopters with near-instant effect. The Rapid Destroyer has demonstrated an effective engagement range of approximately 1 kilometer, with further development underway to extend its range and effectiveness.
An extended range would undoubtedly be needed to solidify its role as an effective system against drones in a layered air defense network. The UK Ministry of Defence highlighted the system’s low cost per engagement, estimated at just 10 cents per shot, making it a compelling alternative to missile-based or other hard-kill defenses that can cost thousands of dollars per use.
On top of that, the extensive targeting capability of Rapid Destroyer can simultaneously destroy and disable huge drone swarms with a single charge, only increasing its cost-effective nature. While production costs are unknown, the low operating cost would make Rapid Destroyer an extremely valuable asset if deployed in large numbers, which could offset the shorter range.
Lastly, the system is mounted on a flatbed truck, allowing for high mobility to quickly respond to incoming threats and withdraw before being targeted, though its substantial power requirements necessitate a robust energy source.
With the high likelihood of close cooperation and technology sharing between Ukraine and the UK, this system could significantly reinforce the Ukrainian air defense network, providing a powerful additional layer, even at shorter ranges.
During long-range strikes, Russians often attempt to target one point in Ukraine’s air defenses, to overload and exhaust Ukrainian capabilities, and allow subsequent strikes to get through. Rapid Destroyers could quickly and efficiently neutralize these initial drone swarms, allowing other Ukrainian air defense systems to preserve air missiles and ammunition to shoot down higher-threat Russian ballistic and cruise missiles.
Overall, there is a high likelihood that this technology will soon appear in Ukraine as well, as Ukrainian engineers will strive to develop and produce domestic variants of Rapid Destroyer on a large scale, if proven effective at countering Russian drones. Given Ukraine’s deep, hard-earned expertise in countering drone warfare, incorporating systems like the Rapid Destroyer into their arsenal could significantly enhance their defensive capabilities.
Furthermore, a key incentive for technology sharing between Western allies and Ukraine lies in the potential for real-world feedback. Ukrainian forces are already providing invaluable battlefield data and performance evaluations to Western allies, which are otherwise difficult to replicate in testing environments.
These kinds of practical insights will enable designers and engineers in the West to rapidly iterate and improve on their existing weapon systems, strengthening defense capabilities in Ukraine and across the whole of NATO, while reinforcing the collaborative nature of modern warfare technology and development.

The men armed with automatic rifles shot at least 26 tourists dead and injured several others. All those killed were men. We can be certain that once its war against Ukraine ends, Russia will experience a huge economic "hangover" from years of excessive military spending.
It happens after every war and can sometimes lead to serious social unrest.
However, after years of seeing predictions of imminent collapse of Russia's economy, I would not expect anything so drastic, so long as Putin remains in power.
Of course, some of Russia's production is limited by what Russia can afford. It's also limited by sanctions, and of course foreign sales. As far as I see, zero foreign orders have been delivered over the past couple years, though Iran might get Egypt's cancelled SU-35s that have been sitting unsold for a couple years. VKS would love to have them to replace lost aircraft, but Russia desperately needs Iran's drones, missiles and artillery shells.

On Friday, the enemy, using missiles and drones, attacked several military installations in Crimea. There were rumors about 10 missiles being shot down, but, unfortunately, there was some bad news.
According to our information, military infrastructure facilities in Sevastopol, near Simferopol and in the Saki region of Crimea were attacked. Some of the missiles were indeed intercepted, but, alas, not all. Some drones also hit the target.
It is preliminary known that the enemy damaged at least 3 Ka-52 helicopters at the Gvardeyskoye airbase near Simferopol. The condition of one fighter is also being clarified. So far there is little information.
In Sevastopol, a military facility was attacked directly within the city, but we are talking about a secret location and even our sources in the fleet chose not to talk about it. They only hinted that there could have been serious casualties among the officers.
In the Saki region, one of the air defense radars was disabled. Previously, there was a hit from an enemy drone.

The individuals — identified by the German prosecutor as Dieter S. and Alexander J. — allegedly have ties to a Russian intelligence service and are accused of gathering information about potential targets for sabotage operations.
Dieter S. is accused of being in contact with a person connected to a Russian secret service since October 2023, discussing plans for attacks on military infrastructure and industrial sites in Germany. Armed Conflict Location and Event Data (ACLED)—supplemented with the latest casualty figures from the Park W attack—shows that JNIM attacks in Benin have caused more fatalities so far in 2025 (157) than they did in the entirety of 2024 (103) and are on pace to more than quintuple this figure before the end of 2025.[5] JNIM has not increased the rate of its attacks, however, and is on pace to conduct 25 percent fewer attacks in 2025 than it did in 2024.[6] These figures are approximate—as ACLED uses independently verified or official figures over insurgent claims—and include JNIM fatalities incurred in JNIM-initiated attacks.[7] These numbers highlight the increased scale of JNIM attacks in Benin broadly, however. Analyst Charlie Werb calculated that Benin's losses in 2025 are equal to 80 percent of the Beninese forces killed in action over the previous three years.[8]

A Puntland commander described the battle as a defining moment in the region’s fight against ISIS. “Togga Miiraale will become the final graveyard of ISIS in Somalia,” he said.

This summer, Russian state bank VTB may receive a subordinated deposit from the National Welfare Fund (NWF) for a project to build a gas processing and liquefaction complex in Ust-Luga in the amount of 200 billion rubles, Dmitry Pyanov, First Deputy President and Chairman of the Management Board and Financial Director of the bank, told journalists.
VTB is also expecting a subordinate loan from the National Welfare Fund for the project to build a high-speed railway between Moscow and St. Petersburg for 93 billion rubles. The bank reported that it could attract it in the spring and a government order has already been issued.

Ukrainian and European representatives reportedly presented the United States with a proposal to end the war in Ukraine during multilateral talks in London on April 23. The Telegraph reported on April 25 that the Ukrainian-European proposal contained five points about territory, security guarantees, negotiations, refusing Russian sovereignty over occupied Crimea, and the Ukrainian military and defense industrial base (DIB).[1] Reuters published the full text of the terms that Ukrainian and European officials reportedly developed in response to the US seven-point peace plan on April 25.[2] The proposal as presented by Reuters calls for a full, unconditional air, sea, and land ceasefire concurrently with immediate technical negotiations to implement the ceasefire, involving the United States and European countries; United States-led ceasefire monitoring with support from third countries; robust Ukrainian security guarantees absent Ukraine's NATO accession; and for Russia to unconditionally return illegally deported Ukrainian children and detained Ukrainian civilians as well as engage in an “all-for-all” prisoner of war (POW) exchange. The proposal reportedly rejects restrictions on the Ukrainian military, calls for an ad hoc group of European states and willing non-European countries to guarantee Ukraine's security, and rejects restrictions on the deployment of any friendly forces to Ukraine.[3]
The Ukrainian-European proposal states that Russia and Ukraine will negotiate territorial issues only after the implementation of a full and unconditional ceasefire and that these negotiations will use the current frontline as a starting framework.[4] The Ukrainian-European proposal would reportedly provide Ukraine with “unhindered access” to the Dnipro River and control of the Kinburn Spit and Kakhovka Dam.[5] The proposal reportedly calls for Ukraine to regain control over the occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) “with US involvement.” The Ukrainian-European proposal also reportedly states that Ukraine's partners will work toward a consensus on NATO membership, and that Ukraine will pursue joining the European Union (EU).
The Ukrainian-European proposal reportedly calls for the United States and Ukraine to implement the US-Ukraine minerals deal and economic cooperation agreement. The proposal states that US sanctions on Russia may be subject to “gradual easing” if a sustainable peace is achieved and may resume if Russia violates a peace agreement. The proposal reportedly calls for Ukraine's full reconstruction and financial compensation, including using frozen Russian assets.
That the Kremlin is not formally demanding that Ukraine cede most or all of its territory to Russia at this time is not a significant Russian concession, however. The initial full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine aimed to seize Kyiv in February and March 2022 in order to force Ukraine to capitulate fully, depose the current Ukrainian government, and disarm the Ukrainian military, amounting to the total defeat of Ukraine. Russia failed to achieve this objective because the Ukrainian military, with limited Western support, defeated the Russian attack on Kyiv and stalled Russian offensives in the east and south. Ukrainian forces forced Russian forces to withdraw from Kyiv, Chernihiv, and Sumy oblasts in early April 2022 and from most of Kharkiv Oblast and all of west-bank Kherson Oblast later in 2022.[16] Russian forces remain unable to launch an offensive operation that could seize Kyiv or recross the Dnipro River in southern Ukraine at this time, and spent 2024 fighting desperately to seize an area nine-tenths the size of Rhode Island. Russia does not have the military power to seize the rest of Ukraine absent a full-scale mobilization of Russian society, and possibly not then, as long as Western support to Ukraine continues.
The Kremlin has not abandoned its maximalist objectives, moreover. Kremlin mouthpieces, including Russian Security Council Secretary Dmitry Medvedev, have laid the rhetorical groundwork for Russia to eventually lay claim to most or all of Ukraine.[17] Russian officials have also doubled down on their demands for regime change in Ukraine and rhetoric intended to undermine the legitimacy of the current Ukrainian government as recently as April 24.[18] Both of these efforts in concert indicate that Putin retains his objective of controlling all of Ukraine, but is limited by Russia's inability to achieve this objective militarily.
Russian officials continue to intensify narratives used to justify Russia's invasion of Ukraine in order to set conditions to justify future Russian aggression against European states and control European defense policy in the Kremlin's reflexive control campaign. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) published a report on April 25 entitled “80 Years After the Great Victory: The Shadow of Nazism Has Again Covered Europe,” which accuses European states and officials of reviving Nazi ideology and creating policies that discriminate against Russian-speaking populations, especially in Lithuania, Lativa, and Estonia.[19] Russian MFA Spokesperson Maria Zakharova amplified this report and claimed that European states are preventing Russia from achieving its long-held objectives of demilitarization and “denazification” of Ukraine due to this alleged support of Naziism.[20] Russian officials regularly invoke “denazification” to call for regime change in Ukraine and the installation of a pro-Russian puppet government.[21] Zakharova specifically accused the Baltic States and Poland of justifying and reviving Nazism.
Russian officials have notably leveraged accusations of neo-Nazi ideology to justify Russia's invasions of Ukraine, and Russian officials leveraging these narratives against European states - especially the Baltics and Poland - supports ISW’s assessment that Russia may be setting informational conditions to justify future aggression against these states as well.[22] Russian officials are likely attempting to discredit European states more broadly in order to deter them from providing further assistance to Ukraine and revitalizing their defense industries in order to set conditions for future Russian aggression against a weakened Europe.[23] ISW continues to assess that Russia remains committed to discrediting Europe in response to European leaders’ reinvigorated commitment to rearming Europe in alignment with US President Donald Trump's policy goals.
Unknown actors assassinated the deputy head of the Russian General Staff's Main Operational Directorate, Lieutenant General Yaroslav Moskalik, in Balashikha, Moscow Oblast, on April 25. Unknown actors detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) filled with shrapnel, rigged to a vehicle as Moskalik passed the car.[25] Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Spokesperson Maria Zakharova and Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov accused Ukraine of involvement in Moskalik’s assassination.[26] Ukrainian officials have not commented on the attack as of this publication. The Ukrainian Security Services (SBU) claimed responsibility for assassinating the Russian Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Defense Forces Head Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov and his assistant, Major Ilya Polikarpov, in Moscow on December 17, 2024, making this the second assassination of a Russian general in Moscow in the last five months.[27]

Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei implied that Iran's recent cooperation with the United States to reach a nuclear deal is “temporary” during a speech to government officials on April 24.[6] Khamenei may have emphasized the temporary nature of US-Iranian cooperation to assuage the concerns of hardline officials who oppose negotiations with the United States. Khamenei’s main priority is preserving the Iranian regime. Khamenei may calculate that engaging in nuclear negotiations with the United States, at least temporarily, will help preserve regime stability by improving Iranian economic conditions and reducing the chance of a direct conflict with the United States.
CENTCOM Spokesperson Dave Eastburn stated on April 24 that CENTCOM has struck over 800 Houthi targets, including command-and-control sites, air defense systems, and advanced weapons production sites, since the start of the US air campaign on March 15. Eastburn said that the strikes have killed “hundreds of Houthi fighters and numerous Houthi leaders.”[7] Eastburn told CNN that “credible open sources” have reported “over 650 Houthi casualties” in CENTCOM airstrikes since March 15.[8] Eastburn stated that Houthi ballistic missile launches have decreased by 87 percent and Houthi drone attacks have decreased by 65 percent since the start of the CENTCOM airstrike campaign.[9]
Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad announced on April 25 that Iran and Russia signed an agreement for Russia to export 55 billion cubic meters of gas to Iran annually via Azerbaijan.[11] Russian President Vladimir Putin previously stated in January 2025 that Russian gas deliveries to Iran would start at 2 billion cubic meters per year and could increase to 55 billion cubic meters annually.[12] Paknejad added that Russia will finance the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Iran.[13] Iran and Russia will continue nuclear energy cooperation, including by completing the second and third phases of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant. Iran and Russia have also reportedly signed contracts worth four billion US dollars for the development of seven Iranian oil fields.[14] These agreements reflect Iranian efforts to deepen strategic cooperation with Russia under the framework of the January 2025 Russo-Iranian Comprehensive Strategic Agreement.[15] The import of Russian gas to Iran may help Iran address chronic energy shortages, which have previously sparked protests in northeastern Iran.[16]
