You've probably read the recent story of a black cat who found a forever home in Maryland after being surrendered by her owner in Virginia because she wanted to cuddle. This time, it is a senior Florida dog who was returned by her human parents to the animal rescue in Sarasota County because she wanted to sleep in bed with them.
Owners. Not parents. That's stupid.
Correct my dogs live out side and are not allowed in the house.
Maybe they identify as dogs.
Good Heavens!!
I may have committed the ultimate diversity offense: I may have mis-speciesed them!!
Crate it. The dog may not like it at first, but put your dog in a crate each night.
Why are they reporting this as if it makes them bad people?
More power to them for setting limits and recognizing that it’s a pet, not family. No married couple is obligated to share their bed with anyone or any thing.
My dogs sleep on our bed. 2 German Shepherds.
Everyone I know sleeps with their dogs. If they aren’t on the bed, they’re beside it.
We sleep with our cats all the time.
What gets my goat, are these craigslist ads for animals that are suposedly ‘written in first person’, with the dog, cat or bird providing their own narration.
“My humans have a little Boy, a two year old toddler, and My Mom is now way too busy to take me for our three walks a day. Dad was mad with me because I protected my food dish from that Baby, who is walking around everywhere and touching everything! I simply ‘reminded’ Junior (again!) that I don’t like to share my dinner, nothing personal. I need a new place where it’s just me and you with no visitors inside.
My wife keeps our bedroom a few degrees warmer than Siberia in the dead of winter.
I let the dog sleep in bed with us (me) because he and I need to prevent hypothermia.
Well hopefully the dog will end up with someone who is okay with sleeping with a dog. Being an older dog, and a pack animal, I can see why they might want to sleep with someone.
“Everyone I know sleeps with their dogs.”
All of our dogs have slept in the bed.
You’re one dog away from a Three Dog Night.
“A dog in the bed is one of the chiefest joys of life.”
I’ve let a few dogs in my bed.
I know a couple - he makes the dog sleep on the floor. When he gets up and goes to work, the dog sees him out, then the dog then joins her on the bed.
This is so fekkin stupid. Some people like dogs in their bed. Some don’t. These people are caring enough to adopt an older dog but don’t want it in their bed. Now they are satanists or something. Screw this article’s author.
It’s not about that.
If you’re going to adopt a dog from rescue, you have a duty to know something about it. If you don’t or can’t know, you still have a duty to be responsible - for all you know, the dog could have been traumatized, and is seeking comfort with its new owners. No animal is just something you take back, like a handbag from Saks or something.
Dogs are man’s earliest and useful companion among the animals. They deserve our respect and responsibility. They’re not just ‘accessories’.
