Twenty-four years ago today, I “officially” became a FReeper. I had attended the March for Justice on October 31, 1998, and that event convinced me the FRee Republic was the “right” place to “hang out.”
Having “lurked” for a few months prior to the March for Justice, I was delighted to meet so many like-minded people, all of whom came to WDC on their own nickel, to exercise their First Amendment Rights and protest the Clinton administration. March for Justice video
It was the first of many “FReeps” I attended in the WDC area (and elsewhere over the years) before I had to move to Florida in 2004 to attend to my late mother.
In the period of time I was in WDC, the WDC FRee Republic Chapter was VERY actively protesting against Bill Clinton and the LIEberal scumbags who were (and still are!) intent on overthrowing our Constitutional Republic. Our FRiday night “We Support Our Troops” Walter Reed Army Medical Center FReeps are most memorable. Scroll down to the DC Chapter “DC Chapter AAR – WRAMC DOG DAYS OF SUMMER ARRIVE” thread.
Once “hooked” on the AAR, you will find many more interesting threads about FReeper activities down stream FRom that one.
I am posting this "vanity" to thank all of you with whom I have interacted with over these past 24 years who have had a positive influence on my life via FRee Republic. Since I would invariably leave out someone (there are WAAAAY too many to name), I'll just say "Thank you FReepers!" Our FRiday night “We Support Our Troops” Walter Reed Army Medical Center FReeps are most memorable
Finally, thank you JimRob, and your family for providing this forum and allowing us to discuss the important matters of our time!
May OUR FRee Republic continue to flourish!
Eagles Up!
Congratulations! Raising hell on the Internet for a quarter century isn’t just a pastime, it’s a calling.
Congrats, my noobish friend. :)
“Did you attend the FReeper Inaugural Balls?”
Both Freeper Inaugural Balls. I remember meeting many Freepers who had only been screen names until then, Mike Huckabee playing with his band and departing in 2001 to see all of DC covered in a light layer of snow, almost like it had been cleansed of the stain that had been the Clinton administration.
Remember the weekly meetings with people coming out from the White House tours? Kristinn was so amazing with his ability to engage a few of them, teaching them facts that they had never heard.
Gathering outside of the White House Correspondents dinner was great fun as well. Remember when Ralph Nader, who had taken some votes from AlGore, was crossing the wide street and we cheered him. He thought he was being celebrated until he realized that we were just appreciating his part in defeating AlGore.
FReegards N00b! 24OCT98! A whole week older and wiser!
Happy Taxman Birthday, old friend. Glad to see your post tonight. My 22nd is coming up in a few weeks. Anyway, take care and never give up and never give in.
Congratulations...
Congrats. This will be a great post to do a ‘poster report’ on.
Way to go!
I’m from the last century as well.
A lot of water under the bridge these past 2+ decades. The effluent of the Clinton years was disgusting and called for intervention, and Free Republic was the treatment of choice in 1998. With yours and others activism it really clarified the water - thanks for helping set the would-be overlords back a bit. Trump especially really upset their schedule.
The Biden years? The river is sludge and the bridge is rotting. Seems like it’s the death knell for our founding father’s vision, but I hope I’m wrong. It’s no time to give up.
Happy birthday old timer. JimRob should be proud of this site being almost a quarter century old. We would be lost without it.

I was a major lurker then
I joined on 11 August 1998. We are so old that we blow dust when we fart! Nice to see you here still my FRiend!
F’n Newbie.
“thank you JimRob.” I second that motion. Congratulations on your 24th anniversary.
I joined in April 1998 after lurking since January. My teenaged son and I flew from Arizona to attend the MfJ in October 1998. It was our first trip to the Capitol and even though it was just a few days, we had a great time. Hubby and I returned for 2 weeks in 2009 to attend the 9/12 March, and I’d still go back in a heartbeat.
The acronym evokes for me the Association of American Railroads, a pretty far-left industry trade group that represents all but the short line railroads.
October 19,1998
Newbie!! :)
I joined September 3, 1998.
And went to Washington for the protest.
Many thanks for this forum!
I have been here a LONG time.
If it were possible to create a post now that would somehow
magically appear 25 years ago on FR just imagine how hard it would be for people to believe what you would include in such a post....
You would have been labeled a kook for the details in such a post...
[Donald Trump wins 2016 presidential election, there are a zillion genders, a demented old man is cheated into the presidency, people are forced to get dangerous injections or lose their jobs, UFO’s are real but are not what you think they are...and on and on....]
Even more startling would be a post today from say 3 years ahead in 2025. I shudder to think what would be in that post!
Might be an interesting exercise to imagine the details from a post in 2025...hmmm
