Vanity Please define "Neocon"

Posted on 10/10/2022 8:46:26 AM PDT by Nik Naym

Would someone please define "Neocon"?

I can't quite figure it out based on the usage of the word here on FR. From what I can tell it seems to be anyone who doesn't think Putin is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I know it can't be that.

Where did the term come from, and what exactly does it mean?

anyone who doesn’t support an evil regime run by a madman who starts a pointless war. And of course if you don’t support that you are also a Biden supporter.

Right here. Let's start right here.

The term refers to former communists who rejected communism when they grew up and embraced conservatism. Like former smokers, they became such strong anticommunists in their older years that their previous communist colleagues came up with the term in an effort to insult them for switching sides.
The people who use the term typically are sympathetic to the USSR.

Neocon: Somebody who urged the US to invade Iraq and now wants us to go to war against Russia.

This is why do many neocons are also NeverTrumpers. They hate Trump because he denounced the Iraq invasion and occupation, and he said we should try to get along with Russia - and he also said he wasn’t sure he should trust our intelligence agencies over Putin.

Similar to “trans woman”, a neoconservative is somebody who says he’s a conservative, but still has most of his old Democrat baggage.

It's a conservative with an interventionist foreign policy. After 9/11 they led the intellectual charge supporting the Iraq War, using everything from "nation-building" to dubious charges in retrospect about WMDs.Some of the top names were Bill Kristol, Jonah Goldberg, Stephen Hayes, all huge NeverTrumpers

Since Trump came along, a lot of conservatives have rethought that view (part of a greater realization that the Bush family is more interested in their political family rather than considering their base).

Now with Ukraine, the NeoCon NeverTrumpers (and Dem Establishment) see this as an opportunity to take control of the party again by painting everyone who questions our Ukraine strategy as a "Putin stooge"

Neocon: Somebody who trusts our intelligence agencies implicitly and says anyone who is skeptical of what they tell us is a traitor

A NeoCon wants the US to conquer the planet with military forces in every country in the world.

After they lose a war their solution is to double down and accuse anyone who questions them of being unpatriotic and a libertardian!

Rush called them Seminar Callers.

They have talking points they think will cause visceral reactions.

In lieu of logic, reason or argument.

In some cases it’s also antisemitic name calling by cowards.

From Encyclopedia Britannica, on the intellectual history of the neocon movement coming from disillusioned Communists

https://www.britannica.com/topic/neoconservatism

Intellectual influences

Among their intellectual ancestors neoconservatives count the ancient Greek historian Thucydides for his unblinking realism in military matters and his skepticism toward democracy, as well as Alexis de Tocqueville, the French author of Democracy in America (1835–40), who described and analyzed both the bright and the bad sides of democracy in the United States. More recent influences include the German-born American political philosopher Leo Strauss and several of his students, such as Allan Bloom; Bloom’s student Francis Fukuyama; and a small band of intellectuals who in their youth were anti-Stalinist communists (specifically Trotskyites) before becoming liberals disillusioned with liberalism. The latter include Irving Kristol, Nathan Glazer, and Norman Podhoretz, among others.

Neocons are those who were once Democrat supporters, but joined the Republican party because their party no longer supported U.S. intervention in foreign escapades, at least not overtly. But the Republican party did. Until Trump won, then they all retreated back to supporting Democrats. The poster child for a neocon would be William Kristol:

I'll point you to an example:

John Bolton on Regime Change

Think of those who morphed striking Al Queda in their hiding place in Afghanistan into a near 20 year nation building exercise. Or the loyal opposition who went along with Obama's sponsorship of ISIS in the middle east, obstensively to depose Assad, the latter which Trump dismantled pretty quickly.

Other person examples: John McCain, Bill Krystal, Lindsey Graham....

It’s the Trotsky branch of the American communist party. They moved from the democrats party to the republicans. They are personified by Bill Krystal. They couldn’t care less about anything social conservatives and in fact, are generally hostile to social conservatism. They are globalist, and place global cooperation and interest above anything American. They wrap themselves in the American flag and pretend to be conservative. Traditional conservatives often align with them out of ignorance, because neocons have a fetish for the military. Neocons love shooting missiles at people, bombing places, and having marines hit the beach. Some more simple minded conservatives automatically and reflexively support them. But they never notice that they support every revolutionary socialist idea for Americans at home. Neocons couldn’t care less about homosexuality in the schools, drag queen story hour, national health care, the prescription drug plan from George Bush, massive corporate welfare and bank bail outs, and a centrally planned economy. Essentially they are Trotsky communist, masquerading as American conservatives. That’s what a neocon actually is.
