The Stage Is Being Set For A Massive Global Rice Shortage
Economic Collapse Blog ^ | 9/11/22 | Michael Snyder

Posted on 09/16/2022 11:35:00 AM PDT by Roman_War_Criminal

This wasn’t supposed to happen. For months, I have been writing article after article about the rapidly growing global food crisis, but even though drought is devastating so many other crops all over the planet I thought that there would be plenty of rice in 2023. Unfortunately, I was wrong. As you will see below, some of the biggest rice producers in the entire world are being hit really hard, and rice production is going to be way below expectations this year. Of course rice is one of the primary staples that poor nations depend upon, and so this is a really big deal. If there is a serious shortage of rice in 2023, that is going to have enormous implications for all of us.

An announcement that India just made should be front page news all over the globe right now.

India usually accounts for over 40 percent of all worldwide rice shipments, but now they have placed severe restrictions on all future exports this year…

India banned exports of broken rice and imposed a 20% duty on exports of various grades of rice on Thursday as the world’s biggest exporter of the grain tries to augment supplies and calm local prices after below-average monsoon rainfall curtailed planting.

India exports rice to more than 150 countries, and any reduction in its shipments would increase upward pressure on food prices, which are already rising because of drought, heat-waves and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Well California is a huge exporter of rice, and the invites in the government are shutting down farms that use too much water. Nothing uses more water for the growth of their product than rice.

Again, those who claim they love the poor, will destroy their ability to eat.

No more rice, and the farmers make more money to sell their corn for ethanol that they do for food.

Thus the top tow food sources for the poor around the World are rice and corn, and both are in short supply, thanks to leftists environmental wackos.

Prepper Ping - Rice Shortage - Indian rice has world-wide export implications
Domestic rice production in California is jeopardized due to water/ irrigation restrictions

(My comment): A Reduced rice crop will put extra pressure on the US annual wheat crop; hard winter wheat is being harvested now in the mid-western states.
Water restrictions in California has already reduced the amount of available cropland for rice production; thank goodness for USDA crop insurance or many farms would 'go under'.
Domestic production is down due to water restrictions, increased costs of fertilizer, and fuel costs, as well as cost of new farming machinery.
The normal monsoon season has been delayed, and yet there is flooding in Pakistan and Indonesia thus reducing regional rice production.

Rice and beans together provide a pretty good diet, in a pinch.

Crop insurance may keep the farmers solvent, but it doesn’t replace the food that wasn’t grown.

They can print money, but they can’t print food.

"The zero oxygen prevents any grain moth eggs from developing and protects freshness. It’s important to pump the nitrogen down into the grains to push out any oxygen or carbon dioxide."

Freezing before dry storage will destroy the eggs too. I put mine in the freezer for 4-5 days before I long-term store them.

IIRC, Gates is working on that, too.

If bad times come, you will eat what you have available.

Rice and beans make a complete protein, are cheap, and are excellent for trading or feeding others. Just saying.

Personally, I tend to go heavy on the dehydrated potatoes.

Rice is great, but when I eat it, it feels like I haven’t eaten anything. It doesn’t matter how much I ate, my stomach still feels empty. That constant feeling of hunger messes with your mind in ways that are hard to imagine unless you’ve been there. In a survival situation, anything that messes with your mind is a bad thing. So, for me at least, rice is a “once in a while” food.

Potatoes on the other hand? Those are awesome. They are very filling, can be used in all kinds of different ways, and are high in potassium (which I tend to need more of). Dry potato flakes last forever, and fresh potatoes are easy for me to grow.

Everybody has a different mix of foods that work best for them.
