I need some pesticide, these DC fundraisers are FLOODING my text messages and emails to the point of nausea! Yesterday I got 15+ from 22-now.com and others! Is there any way that my fellow FReepers have found to handle this?
Block all unknown callers. The ones who need to talk to will leave a voice mail. This handled those “car warranty” calls eventually.
Create a user and label it Spam Text.
As spams show up, add the numbers to the list.
My Spam Text has 50 phone numbers
Democrats NEVER abide by the law. It’s beneath them..
GOP/RNC may be getting info from voter registration. Also many places sell phone numbers. Club cards etc.
Stores ask for phone numbers or even e-mails on simple purchases. From Home Depot we have; “would you like an e-mail receipt?”
Kill your phone.
I had this happen for about a week. After blocking and labeling them as SPAM, they finally quit.

. ummmm... asking for a friend.
Not quite, unfortunately. In a test to see if things have changed recently, I just tried it on one of my MANY text messages. The response, undoubtably auto-generated, is in the text below. As you can read, there appears to be little, if any, difference between using 'stop' or blocking as both are tied to the phone number used by the solicitation. As mentioned elsewhere, there appears to be a plethora of number available to be used in this area!
You have successfully been unsubscribed, you will not receive any more messages from this number. Reply START to re-subscribe.
I once donated to McCain/Palin. It was the only time I have ever donated to a political campaign. Ever since then I have been getting ads pretty much constantly. I have unsubscribed successfully but they come from other groups.
Incidentally I have worked on the computer of someone who is a liberal and the format of the emails she gets is nearly identical except opposite. Instead of saying Pelosi they say McConnell is the threat. Imagine the messages we get from Republicans and turn everything around and you know what they get. This tells me that the same people work both sides. The deep divisions help them make money.
“Federal law says texting STOP back to them obligates them to leave you alone.”
Which statute?

i use a flip-phone instead of a smart phone, rarely use it, and don’t give out the number ...
I left every social media site except for an anonymous account on Twitter with zero followers. I unsubscribed from every news source except for 2. I ended paid subscriptions for sites I never thought would sell my info only to discover the small print.
I only trust Free Republic.( My name doesn’t appear on the donor list this time for some reason even though I donated. It’s ok. Next time. I get a lot of bang for my buck. I’m grateful. I informed Chris and he said he doesn’t know how to fix it.)
With all the eliminations, my messages, emails, and cell phone calls have dropped by 75%. I still get 20 calls every single day from Police Charities and Firefighter relief funds.
This is the new life. You can’t even answer the phone you pay for. No one ever leaves a message. I feel more isolated than ever.
I just skip that question. Never been asked about it.
Heh!
“I just skip that question. Never been asked about it.”
True, and they may not be now be allowed to ask. In at least 2 recent cases, they said the same - don’t enter that data.
For what it is worth, here is my regimen:
I don’t use text messages, period. For these I respond with the single word STOP. Seems to work well.
I use Thunderbird for emails. For these, I set up filters that automatically direct the emails to the trash folder. Once a week I empty the trash.
You must be an old guy. Lucky you didn't have to text for work related messages.
