Where is a good place to put $150K to make some income with it, rather than just let it sit there not getting any interest.

At the very least he should get most of it into a savings account where it will get some interest.

Split it between four different stocks that are in the aristocrat category of reliable dividend producing equities. Even if the prices fall payments of dividends still proceed to produce yields
I am assuming that any consumer debt is retired first.

Bank of Oklahoma didn’t take bailout money since they didn’t participate in predatory loans. I believe they have investment banking, and have branches in many states.
If he is eligible, USAA may also be an avenue to explore.

Bump for later/tomorrow. Does this friend of yours have any financial sense at all? Did he ask for your advice? Do you know about any other assets he may have in his name? What does he plan to do with the $150,000?
Need answers to all these.

Checking account-earns maybe what? .5%?
Good mutual funds, good balanced ones etc maybe 12%?
For heaven sakes get some help, and get that money out of the checking account and into a good safe mutual fund

I would be inflation focused. Supposedly the way to survive inflation is property, stock, silver/gold.
I’m too chicken to play with stocks or crypto, so for me either property or silver/gold.
My advice might not be the best

How much is a retired submarine? I would arrange to disappear on the bottom of the ocean for months on end. Resupply would be my biggest challenge.
