The student body president of the University of Connecticut (UConn) has fallen under fire by his peers in student government over his support of pro-free speech legislation on campus.
The Undergraduate Student Government (USG) Governing Board recently issued a “vote of no confidence” for student body president Mike Hernández over his support of a proposed free speech bill, according to a report by Daily Campus.
The legislation in questions seeks to protect the right of students to freely express their opinions within student government and at the university as a whole.
This concept, however, is facing backlash on campus, as other USG members believe the legislation will give students “a free pass to express casual racism, homophobia and misogyny without consequence,” the report added....
Hernández has reportedly also been facing backlash after a private comment he made to a fellow student came to light, in which the student body president likened the legislation to treating minorities like children....

“Under fire”?
Was he at The Great Capitol Siege today?
“The bullets were as thick as the porridge in Joe Biden’s head!”
Incident #1,000,000 why colleges should have ALL federal funding cut.
He made a mistake and spoke the truth. In today's university environment that's a no no. I hope he has the spine to stand up for his principles.
Hernandez, eh? Figures a school in one of the lily-whitest States in America would want to toss him out of office. Bunch of racists.
Remember when colleges used to encourage free speech...me neither.
Any state employee of that state institution that infringes or conspires to infringe on the 1st Admendent rights of any student should be sued personally in Federal court for violating the student’s civil rights.
“I support freedom of speech as laid out in the Constitution”, said the student.
“Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! v Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!”, replied the government-funded university.
The school has a prime opportunity to do the right thing, they should agree with the disruptive punks on their wanting to ban certain kinds of speech, then EXPEL All of them for their speech disrupting the School and the Other Students..
They should have state funding cut as well.
We CT taxpayers should send our tax money to North Korea—they probably have more freedom of speech and thought than UConn.
Kinda reminds me of the “Free Speech” movement in Berkeley back in the day—where they terrorized anyone they disagreed with—while college officials sat on their duffs and did nothing.
I’m of the opinion that unless your child is prepared to take Calculus I in their first semester, they should enter a technical/trade. The purpose of this is to starve the Humanities/”Studies” departments where most of this BS originates. They’re only being propped up by being general ed requirements. Fewer students, less money.

Wisdom
Snowflake is real folks.
“Wisdom”
I agree.
Remember the article earlier this week about a high school canceling the advanced placement class because not enough minority representation? Pure madness.
... and why “credentials culture” needs to be cut down to size.
Oh good God.
