Rant about FR webmaster [vanity]
FR | 3/2/2021 | self

Posted on 03/02/2021 1:47:05 PM PST by logi_cal869

The slur goes something like "you had one job to do", but because I'm a geek, immersed in IT and knowledgeable about webmaster things, I know it's a spoke in a wheel.

But when there's a Copyright List that every responsible FReeper goes to when posting from a source which isn't familiar, there's a reasonable expectation that following what's stated on the Copyright List page is correct.

I, for one, have MUCH BETTER things to do than to spend the time - repeatedly - posting something to FR only to have the message pop up "Post blocked due to copyright complaint".

What angers me is that if you took the time to write that code, you could also have expended a whopping minute to edit the HTML on the Copyright List page.

If it had only occurred once, no big deal. But this has happened to me on multiple occasions, this one on a day when I could rant about what is obviously failure to maintain the Copyright List in REAL TIME.

If it's not being maintained in real time, then it's inaccurate. So what's the point?

Oversight? 'On the list'? Didn't get around to it? It's "in the mail"? Or perhaps this function has been outsourced to non-English speakers?

I could care less. If the Copyright list is not accurate, get rid of it.

Rant over. Fire away; ICGAS.

I'll just be posting even more from bloggers :-)/s (i.e. "real" news)

Overall, FR hasn't changed much in the 20+ years I've been here. That's great for the seasoned citizen folk that like things to stay the same, but the truth is, the Internet has changed. Blogs have changed. News has changed. FR is, without a doubt, the ORIGINAL social network, and I've been thankful to participate. But sometimes things do need change. I won't pretend to know what change FR needs, if any, but just thought I'd post what has come to mind over the years.

I will say that, while FR fundraising drives me crazy, it sure beats the heck outta annoying ads everywhere. Quite honestly, if FR depended on ads to survive, I think she would have been done for a long time ago, a fact that many newspaper and news websites haven't quite grasped.

We had strange behavior the other day in a certain thread here when clicking “post reply”, just sent you to the beginning of the thread.

That's been happening on and off for years and has nothing
to do with your special Qtard research threads.

You take yourselves entirely too seriously.

Get yourselves some jobs, stand up straight and take a shower.

> We had strange behavior the other day in a certain thread here when clicking “post reply”, just sent you to the beginning of the thread. Work arounds were quite tedious, until the problem “went away”.

I've had that happen a few times, usually months apart, and only on certain threads, and yeah it tended to "go away" after a while.

Website software: Can't live with it, can't shoot it.

I get to say that, being the author and webmaster of a dozen-plus sites since 1996. There are times I'd like to shoot it, whether it was someone else's code or my own.

Sometimes it's best to get up from the computer and take a walk, around the house or down the street. Nothing about posting on a website is that damn important it's worth getting stressed about.

“Devils lettuce”
It’s not on this, rather exhaustive, list https://wayofleaf.com/blog/most-updated-420-slang-terms

>>To honor the publisher’s display requests, individually? This seems tediously hard to maintain.<

that's a fact. even harder when mergers\aquisitions happen...but...

FR got sued (a couple of times I think)...big deal at the time...and this was the result...

It is a pretty widely used term with a very long history.

Before you think I am a daily reader of wiki leaf, let me just state the last time I smoked Wacky Tabacky was close to 30 years ago. I just have to deal with a lot of stoners in my line of work and as long as they perform I don’t care. (IT/Programming)

“”I could care less.””

As pointed out many times at FR, you really mean “I couldn’t care less.”

I believe the posting page is upside down. The question, “Source URL” should be the first question asked. As it is now, that question is one of the last ones asked.

By putting it first, the article source can be immediately checked against the No-No list and an appropriate error message displayed, saving the FReeper time and frustration.

I also believe the copyright post should be done away with. It hasn’t been correct (updated) in years.

Try posting this article: https://www.lcsun-news.com/story/news/2021/03/01/dona-ana-county-detention-officer-sues-over-covid-19-vaccine-mandate/6872193002/ Go ahead.

It's a worthwhile article for posting except for the restriction on title and link only. However, there are several similar stories that could have been posted without restriction except requiring excerpts.

Below is the link to the one I just posted and another for the Daily Mail:

Doña Ana County employee sues over COVID-19 vaccine mandate (New Mexico)

First US lawsuit filed over mandatory COVID vaccinations: New Mexico detention center worker SUES his employer after being told he'd be fired for refusing inoculation
