Anecdotal evidence and common sense vs. polls (vanity)

Posted on 10/04/2020 10:13:54 AM PDT by BuckeyeGOP

Yesterday my family and I were driving from Columbus to Cincinatti. As we got on I-270, (the outterbelt for Columbus), the traffic was unusually heavy and slow. It didn't take long to see why. A massive Trump road train was in progress. As far as the eyes could see on both sides of the highway were countless cars and trucks flying the American flag and Trump 2020 flags. This went on non stop, both directions, as we traveled 20 miles to our exit. 270 is basically a complete loop about 60 miles that encircles the city. I have never seen a display of political enthusiasm like this before, it had to be hundreds and hundreds of vehicles. I noticed the majority of license plates were registered locally. Columbus is located in Franklin County Ohio, one of the bluest counties in Ohio, and one of only a handful that went Hillary in 2016.

Seeing this, seeing the boat parades everywhere, seeing the massive rallies for Trump and then comparing that to Biden's pathetic appearances and no-show events leaves me wondering how can this be...how can this stuff not reflect in polling? Something doesn't smell right.

On the other hand, if I'm going to be completely honest, when it comes to yard signs, it's a different story. I travel all over the suburbs everyday and the yard signs for Biden out number Trump yard signs by probably 5 to 1. That would be my only anecdotal observation that gives me some pause. There are some things though that might explain this. Ohio State Univ is the largest employer in Columbus so there is no shortage of professors and university govt professional workers. We also have a lot of attorneys and young tech professionals. Columbus is also known as being one of the country's most gay-friendly cities.

But it's not just the massive display of Trump enthusiasm that makes me scratch my head when looking at polls, it's also common sense. I try to put myself in the shoes of the other side and imagine what would motivate middle to upper middle class professionals in suburbs to not only vote Biden, but proudly display a yard sign to show it. I honestly cannot figure it out. It's baffling and seems so obviously self-destructive. It was easy to understand how Obama got elected in 2008. The pushing of hope, an economic meltdown, the first African American president and of course a terrible candidate in McCain. 2012 was the result of a wishy-washy weak candidate on our side in combination with the usual history of how difficult it is to unseat an incumbant. 2016 was a message that we were sick of the establishment and Hillary was everything that represented the swamp.

This time we have a proven leader. A president who never once left the side of the people in favor of the establishment. A true outsider that works everyday to keep his promises for us. Doing all of this while being attacked, maligned, and impeached....for nothing....and from both sides.

I only see one reason why someone who is an otherwise reasonable thinking professional American would vote Biden. Their hatred for Trump on a personal level is so strong they would vote in a piece of paper over him. A hatred so strong they would risk gambling with a socialistic agenda. It's mind-boggling.

History tells us that voting against a candidate is never enough but looking at the polls you would think that it's more than enough.

I believe Trump will win because of what I witnessed on the highway yesterday...the majority of people still love this country more than they hate Trump.

Also, I think polls should be rendered utterly useless so the media will stop bothering with them.

“...how can this stuff not reflect in polling? Something doesn’t smell right.”

I, like many, MANY others lie to pollsters and never advertise my ‘Conservatarian’ leanings on my home or car. I don’t want my things, that I’ve worked HARD for, vandalized by evil Socialist Democrats.

The only poll that counts is the poll taken on Election Day.

President Trump will win. Voters WILL crawl over broken glass to vote FOR him.

Thanks for sharing what you saw. THAT is America - not the BS Socialism the Socialist Democrats want and the Enemy Media promotes every minute of every day! :)

All you really have to do is just look at the general facts of the matter

but in particular , the rallies you have tens of thousands of people trying to get into TRUMP MAGA rallies ; and when Joe Biden shows up absolutely nobody shows up!

That is called enthusiasm or the enthusiasm gap

I don’t even think Democrats are excited to vote for Joe Biden

and I can tell you for a fact that all of us think Donald J Trump is the greatest president this country has ever had !!! is an incredible guy !!!we love him dearly !!! and we can’t wait to vote for him

The spontaneous unplanned car parade boat parades and everything else are basically the United States citizens who love this country and love this president showing the media that we hate their guts and we don’t believe anything they say and basically F you

It most likely won't happen, but a repeat of 1984 would be so SWEET! Though, we'll see a LOT more RED on the map than we have since President Reagan, that's for sure!

They’re trying to save face a little bit by tightening but they can’t help themselves because I saw a poll that said 53% to 39% Biden!

Maybe this one was after the prez’s hospitalization.

They will pay for their wishful thinking and fomenting CW II, hopefully with their lives, like any other citizens.

Hey Diana, you're one of the good ones, so I hate to make it personal, but I'm from Minnesota.

Even the Vikings / Packers rivalry shouldn't be sufficient cause for you to want MN to vote Biden.

I think Trump will win Minnesota; I'm seeing US flags, Trump flags, and Trump stickers on cars in the Minneapolis suburbs.

And PDJT *owns* the Iron Range now.

There really does seem to be a deficit of enthusiasm among the leftist Democrat voters. The rally below happened Saturday in Lebanon New Hampshire. Lebanon is close to Dartmouth and just over the border from Vermont, Senator Sanders' home state.

On a beautiful fall day Bernie Sanders should be able to draw a crown of college students at least. But he can't. On a day like yesterday gathering a group of people to be outside in New Hampshire is easy. But Biden/Harris can't get more than a few people to show up.

No energy in Biden, or in his supporters. That said never underestimate the treachery of the Democrats. Get out and knock on doors, plan on getting 10 people to the polls to vote on election day, or volunteer to watch a polling place.

Other than the polls put out by lying MSM and BLM industries, there is not one ounce of proof Biden is ahead. Not one.

I do find it astounding that anyone cannot see Biden is clearly not Presidential material.
This is the centenary of the only election in which a senator defeated a governor for an open presidential seat.

And no senator has ever defeated a sitting president’s reelection bid.

Biden is also a VP, but that is essentially irrelevant since he did not attained that office within 20 years of attaining statewide office.

VP is not an executive position, a VP is political heir of the president. Like a prince, only in this case the “king” probably won’t die while the “prince” is in office.

Similar logic argues against Harris; she’s practically running for president, and she doesn’t have the kind of big-time executive experience for a good presidential candidate. FTM Pence, who attained VP status only 4 years after attaining statewide office as the governor of Indiana, is more qualified to be POTUS than either Biden or Harris. And is much younger than Biden (or Trump FTM) - and looks it.

Biden will soon be 78, and he looks every day of it. No one has been elected POTUS who is any older than Trump is now. Hopefully Trump fully recovers from Covid, but even if he does have lingering effects he will presumably still be more vigorous that Biden is now. And if he does fully recover he will, presumably, subsequently be immune to the disease. After a week or so, I hope Mr. Trump plays a round of golf and podcasts it live.

My whole County is making fun of these. I got it too. I told them my biggest issue is all the annoying texts coming through my phone by liberal losers.

All of those homes with Biden for President signs, have quite a few Trump 2020 signs hidden in their garages... the signs they stole from their neighbors yards...

I see pretty much same thing. The suburbs are what concern me. I’m in iowa, the rural areas and exurbs are solid red. The burbs are gonna be challenging. But it’s hard to know what to make of this. As other commenters have noted, there is considerable reluctance to out a trump sign in one’s yard due to fear of vandalism. On other hand, I see lots more Trump bumper stickers than biden stickers. Flags? Lots of trump flags, I’ve only ever seen one biden flag. Does that mean something? Pfft! Who can say! Dont read too much significance into this stuff. You wanna make a difference? make SURE you get all the like minded voters you know to the polls. Drag them there if necessary. Turnout will won the day.

Lots of Trump signs and flags in our south Jersey town - about 5 times those for Biden - and this is the place Biden’s wife Dr. Jill grew up - on the other hand it’s also the place where Kellyanne Fitzpatrick Conway went to elementary and high school - bodes well for Trump I’d say.....

I agree.
My “thought process” was addressing the “middle to upper middle class professionals in suburbs” who will vote for Biden.
They are brainwashed into communism (collective thought).

Yard sign idea:
1. Arrow pointing toward the “In This House We Believe” incantation.
2. Text that reads, Dear ANTIFA: Please Destroy Our Shit Last.
