Natural Gas-starved NY State supply pipeline project abandoned after Gov. Cuomo vowed “any way that we can challenge it, we will”

After a four-year battle with the state, the proposed Constitution natural-gas pipeline project has been abandoned, as National Grid warns of a coming natural gas supply emergency next Winter.

The State of New York has a natural gas shortage, the result of years of the administration of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and environmentalists fighting the construction of new supply pipelines.

A June 2019 report by The Manhattan Institute documented the shortage and its causes, Out of Gas: New York’s Blocked Pipelines Will Hurt Northeast Consumers:

I would first suggest that LIEberal states should be cut off from all energy sources they oppose, but then they would move to warmer climates and corrupt those states as well.

He has also led the charge to shut down the Indian Point Energy Center, throwing away for no good reason 2,000 MW of emissions-free capacity. IPEC has renewed their operating license for another 20 years. There is nothing wrong with those plants. He's putting over 1,000 of his highly-skilled and educated workforce out of their jobs.

I guess he thinks NY State's energy will come from wind and solar, i.e., pixie dust and unicorn farts. Cuomo's compadre, Bernie Sanders, likewise was responsible in large measure for destroying the Vermont Yankee plant, putting over 600 of his constituents out of work. Bernie said that Vermont could replace VY's output with windmills and solar panels and, being the dismissive son of a beehive that he is, said the employees at VY could all find new work in the wind and solar industries. He never admitted the fundamental truth that a moderate-sized nuclear plant like Vermont Yankee produced more energy in one year than the total combined production of every windmill and solar panel in New England and New York State.

***1973 during the Arab oil embargo,***

I remember those years! The term in the South was...”DRIVE LIKE HELL! FREEZE A YANKEE!”

And the stop on building the Trans-Alaska Pipeline back then was suddenly removed.

The thickest part of the Marcellus Shale is under Binghamton. Prince Andrew is robbing us blind. NYSEG just got a 24% increase in delivery charges approved. What a Putz.

Cuomo enjoys virtue-signaling, and then sticking others with the bill

He gave Tesla $1 billion for a factory in Buffalo, which is turning out to be a total waste of money, to burnish his “green credentials.”

He pushed the green light law and kicked ICE out of state databases - but now NYers can’t get trusted traveller programs

Same with gas and fracking.

The NYC/Albany corridor controls the state. That area is overwhelmingly Leftist, so cooler heads can't prevail. And, the GOP is a pathetic joke in this state, so a double-whammy.

What will happen when the upper counties of New York state start to declare financial bankruptcy? Will it result in New York state split in two, one with the boroughs of New York City plus Long Island and one with the rest the state, now opened up to natural gas extraction and holding the other state hostage?

What really aggravates me is the subsidy the rest of us pay for these liberal do-gooders to heat their homes with fuel oil. That artificially keeps the price down and discourages a cleaner, ultimately cheaper, switch to natural gas.

Let them pay the full freight on fuel oil for a couple of cold winters and see how they like that.

NY will import the electricity from hydroelectric dams in Canada. You mention Vermont. Vermont signed long term contracts with Hydro Quebec to import electricity from their dams.

We are the only country in the world that still uses oil for heat directly in homes to any significant degree. THIS is an environmental crime.

That’s why our winter electric rate is $.42 p/kh. Not only that but for a state hemorrhaging money and people it took over $150,000,000 in tax revenue. On the flip side VY had major problems.

When the pressure get so low in the pipeline compressors will go down because of the low discharge pressure. Usually it is the other way around you have low suction pressure which means your running out of gas. Pipeline has to be sized for maximum and minimum volumes. Sounds like they need a larger pipeline and it is not worth the fight we the idiots in New York, let them run out of gas.

Yes, but I think it was 65 back then. Cars are so much more fuel efficient today, we need to drive faster to burn enough gasoline to make a difference!
