New data from the New York Fed highlights how the job situation for recent graduates is worsening. While the rest of the labor market trends favorably, fresh graduates are more likely to be unemployed than the base U.S. working population. That has not happened before in the New York Fed data going back to 1990. While the unemployment rate for all college graduates aged up to 65 (blue line) is trending lower — currently near its lowest level of this current economic cycle — the market for recent college graduates (red) is bucking the overall trend. With the backdrop of a robust U.S. labor market, this is “an important and worrisome trend to watch because it never dropped to prior cycle lows,” DataTrek’s Jessica Rabe wrote in a note. “Even though those who have graduated from college typically get hired before less educated workers.”

It’s worse than that, they have no face-to-face skills. They do not speak in complete sentences and can barely articulate a coherent thought when you frame a question in business terms.
I interview several graduate level students for an open position and was floored at how they do not have basic interaction skills.
Too much screen time methinks and screen-based learning.
There’s millions of people with STEM degrees that aren’t using them, and nobody is asking why. It’s fun to make fun of the snowflake “Lesbian Interpretive Dance Studies” majors, but that’s not the real problem. The same thing is happening to Law Degrees, people are graduating law school with no job prospects and a mountain of debt because of immigrants. They’re now in the process of doing the same with the Medical Industry, they’d love to have our hospitals just like the NHS in Britain which is staffed with tons of Pakistani doctors and nurses.
The talk about “we need more STEM graduates” was just rhetoric they could use to open the floodgates and replace Americans with immigrants.
When half of the college graduates get degrees in Social Justice or some other useful field of study, what do you expect? Luckily, a lot of them minor in Burrito-making, Coffee-making and pizza-tossing, so they have something to fall back on.
And there’s always Mommy and Daddy’s basement when all else fails.

Finance, Information systems, even traditional liberal arts like history, have jobs waiting if they are willing to work. But they have to show up, turn off the phone and plugs out of their ears. Oh, and a suit and dress shoes wouldn’t hurt either.
I retired at 53 in 2015 but my long-dormant Linked-In account has been having hits of people looking at my resume. I was even offered a job. If a retired academic librarian with a BA in World History, MLIS in Library Cataloging and a Ph.D. in Educational Philosophy can be offered jobs these recent graduates can be too.
Lord have mercy. When did they ever repeal the principle of competing for what you want? I know unemployment is low because I personally know people beating the bushes looking for someone to hire. No experience necessary. The problem is little darlings who think they are too good to work for starting wages. Yeah you may have to “do more work.” Excuse me, but when the heck did anyone promise you an easy job?

No one is responding to my daughter. She graduated with a BS in statistics with almost a 4.0 too.
I’m getting concerned. At least, she can go to grad school.

Meanwhile almost every business is begging for workers. The only way anyone is unemployed is if he just refuses to work.
Tell him not to work at a defense contractor. The work is slow and doesn’t pay as well as non defence work.
My husband and are both have CS degrees and met at a defence contractor. I quit when we had kids, and he got out of defence. Lots more opportunities, stock options, and higher pay.
Not just worthless degrees but these people aren’t working their way through college they are borrowing money to finance their education and maintain a lifestyle at the same time. They don’t have any worthwhile skills because a degree in gender studies combined with no work experience makes them a poor investment as an employee.

My recent-college-grad kids are employed just fine. Then again, they majored in areas that companies actually want.

College is a scam unless you are studying something worthwhile.
The fact that a degree in gender studies costs the same as one in engineering is a crime.
It does not end with Medicare for all....for illegals.
They need housing.
They need food.
They need transportation.
They need education.
They need university degrees.
They need basic income.
That $52 trillion grows exponentially as the socialists collapse our economy.
All the poli aci majors are in call centers at minimum wage with quota bonuses because that’s all they learned ..... how to win an argument loading their listener down with words.
Unless I missed it in the article, which degrees are being surveyed. Also, there are many high paying Vocational jobs. College is not for everyone.
The harsh — but comical, in a way — truth is that many, many college graduates are less employable at the age of 22 than they were at the age of 18. That’s because college has turned them into ignorant, entitled morons.
