The all-women engineering team that designed the ill-fated pedestrian foot bridge at Miamis Florida International University were highly touted for their advances in a field that is typically dominated by men.
But critics are pointing the finger of blame at the female engineers for design flaws that may have brought the bridge down.
Investigators are still on the scene of last weeks bridge collapse that killed 6 people and injured 9 on the FIU campus in Southwest Miami.
The investigation is focusing on the work done by a team of all-women engineers who were employed by one of the construction firms that designed and built the bridge.
Munilla Construction Management (MCM), the South Miami-based firm that designed the FIU foot bridge, has been sued multiple times for unsafe practices in the past.
In early March MCM was sued by a construction worker who was severely injured when MCMs makeshift bridge at Miamis International Airport collapsed.
MCM is a Cuban-American, family-owned Miami company founded in 1983 that employs more than 1,000 people in several states. The company is a federal military contractor for the U.S. Army and Navy.
MCM was awarded the $14.2 million minority contract to design and build the cable-stayed bridge. The company is well-connected in Miami politics and it promotes inclusion and diversity in the workforce.

A Bridge Too Fair
I still maintain that this incident occurred because the center support abutment was removed and before the tower and suspension cables were installed. This single-tower suspension bridge design is sound and is in place in many locations around the world.
I have heard that many engineers would have built the tower first or claim that the “normal” build sequence is to build the central tower first. I do not know if that is the case or if that is an absolute requirement, but it’s not at all unreasonable. *IF* it is a requirement then I can scarcely see how placing the unsupported span into position, however “novel” and whoop-de-doo it may have been, was not idiotic folly.
What I am saying is, that the tower and the supporting cables or rods simply were not there at the moment the center support was removed. If that’s the case, the decision to remove supports was a blitheringly stupid management decision.
That's because gravity is sexist:
when a man is affected by gravity, he swings low ("how's it hanging?") which is unfairly alluring to women; but when a woman is affected by gravity, she sags which is NOT attractive to men, so it's just Patriarchical and Unfair.
And if you intensify gravity enough, it turns into a Black Hole, which is hate speech. Because P*ssy Hats are pink. Or something.
Whoever this dumbass Sara Rose is knows nothing about construction. You know, kinda like the resident dumbasses on this forum.
MCM is a construction management firm, they hired FIGG Bridge Design to perform the design work. Joint ventures are complex contractural business relationships which is way beyond the “experts” commenting here.
I would be a little surprised if MCM had any PEs - with the possible exception of Value Engineering. Unlikely any MCM employee sealed any drawing or acted as engineer of record.
To make pronouncements about loads, any responsible and qualified person would have to look at the drawings. Everybody here who has both examined and understands the structural drawings, raise your hand. I thought so.
Now back to your regularly scheduled stupidity.
No way!
"Was?" What happened? Did she stand outside in the rain and shrink all of a sudden?
Ah, affirmative action - it’ll get you every time.....
Is it because they get paid 78% less or whatever the feminazis say?
Ban diversity!
We must do something!
Series!
Liberal stupid is killing people!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They won't have to spin it.
Because they will never report it.
You Winz Teh Thread!
They all ought to be fired. IF any had a PE it should be pulled
Just straight out shoddy work
OMG, I just wanna see Trump’s tax returns and catch the bouquet in Amanda’s amazing wedding!?
“encourages all voices”
Doubt that.
Pretty close: the female engineers were experts at, err, umm, "Deconstructing" Patriarchical Paradigms like loads and force vectors (which are pretty phallic, when you think about it, they're always pointing somewhere).
Brilliant!
People sandwich?
Math is hard. All those put-togethers, take-aways, timeses, and goes-in-tos.
“Math is hard...”
