Well, I'm on the virtual road again, lookin' for a job suitable for a high tech redneck as I camp out in a cheap motel and drive a rented U-Haul pickup truck in Gainesville, Florida.
I've already put in for a couple of jobs that are telecommute. But I practically got shanghaied into submitting an application to a company called ASML in Wilton, Connecticut.
On paper, at least, I might be able to aggressively jump into this job, which pays $70/hr as contract.
Which money is sorely needed if I actually went there. Multi thousand dollar apartments. That's serious green.
But I did an overview of the situation that I'd face. I've been on a serious Christian spiritual thrust, and I mean like I'm channeling Jesus so strong sometimes that it's like I identify right down to the guts with His manly redneck side. And I have written more than one gospel song in first person prophetic mode (laden with His promises, addressed right to the listener).
And that's a problem now, I foresee. Because I can already envision what will happen when I go into one of those etiolated New England churches, or what's left of them. This ain't yesteryear's Puritans, who would understand. When those Puritans died, nothing replaced them. Only the shell of their legacy, which is painfully worldly now. I saw it happen in redneck Gainesville, how much more in New England? They serve out little spoonfuls of tincture of Jesus when I wanna haul out a bucket of stronger stuff and say HERE! And I'd get rebuffed at least, if not kicked out.
And wealth is leaving Connecticut (for what that's worth, but it probably augurs worse taxes or else a bad bust).
And then there's the Sandy Hook shooting. That was well chewed over on FR, but what strikes me is the way they reacted to it. There was such a hush-hush about the local details that some have proposed that the event was fabricated. I don't believe that myself. My hunch is that Sandy Hook was so ashamed -- not grieved, as in the church shooting in Texas, but ashamed -- that they sanitized it. Which is why not even obituaries, something that a more Christian, country-minded folk would not have omitted. And shame is the obverse of pride. I wouldn't get along with those folks as the robust "humble redneck" at all! It would be stilted to an unreal degree.
That said, if I absolutely HAD to go to Connecticut, what on earth could a Redneck do in that Yankee land? Beside pine away wishing he was down south again?
You will get the full truth at a Missouri Synod Lutheran church. His word is truth, and we are saved by believing and trusting. There are about 50 Missouri Synod churches in CT.

Not a big deal really. I misspell words frequently by hitting the keys in reverse order from what I am thinking. For example I’ll type es when I meant to type se. Or even more common, I’ll hit 2 keys at the same time. Sometimes I think I am out it left field even. 8>>) No one is perfect 100% of the time. (Note: I had to correct time as I had typed tiem!!!) LOL

I guess the question is whether they’d let me take their communion. I believe spiritual presence to be more, not less, than physical presence, so I believe my belief to go beyond the classic Lutheran one about the communion, at least as some of those churches put it. But again we’d need to look at what Luther said. I can go with the “Upon, in, and under” consubstantiation description. Which is exactly what spirit would do with something physical it occupied. Sorry to get into the theology but sometimes we can’t avoid it when talking about these kinds of things.

Redneck, you are a gentleman and a scholar. The theology is what it’s about. Visit and talk to the pastor. That is actually the polity of the synod. And be open to what he tells you, if you can. The Lutheran position is both as simple and as profound as it can get. Simple because is means is, and profound because nobody can explain it. The Lutheran doctrine only wants to be the Scriptural doctrine held with respect (not doctrinal deference) for church history.
Luther was actually a theologian; Zwingli not so much. And you and I both probably are wary of the cruft (to say the least) piled on by the Roman church at least since Trent.

There are some fundamentalist and mega churches here in Fairfield County. But there is no escaping a relatively high cost of living and taxes that have been spiraling upward, out of control, for years now. You should be fine at $70/gr8 there, but neither a king nor a prince.
Yeah... I’ve been going Baptist (and bible church before that) which is big on the symbolic side of the elements. But that doesn’t rule out the Holy Spirit being in them anyhow. The Lord is gracious about things we do not know, and if someone doesn’t even know what’s going on, He can’t find fault with them except for not knowing. “Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do” at the least. Having reason to know and still disrespecting the communion would have different repercussions.
I see it now that when one carries on as a believer, one becomes aware that spirit imbues everything one does, whether it’s taking a communion or visiting a neighbor in trouble or preaching or whatever. The airtight walls between spirit and material worlds that we might have envisioned before seeing the effects of spirit, don’t in fact exist.

For what it’s worth Wilton is very nice. CT has some stunningly beautiful rural areas.
I was in Stamford last night, that place, unlike the rest of CT, is a wild, growing, trafficey place. I was told it is quicker and easier (trains) to get to Manhattan from Stamford than it was from Brooklyn. Alot of NYC commuters moving there.
Housing prices will soon be skyrocketing in that area.

We don’t take our glory in where we live, at least not if we are wise.
We take our glory in WHOM we live. And that would go to Connecticut or anywhere else in New England just as much as if it were in the most “conservative” place on earth whatever that might happen to be.
And there does seem to be some snobbery going around in FR. I just rebuked Lurker for gun snobbery. And there’s locale snobbery.
I think we need to come round to a viewpoint that it’s God first, everything else second.

I currently live in Ohio. For the past year the gig I’ve been on has required me to travel quite a bit including weeks in CT and MA.
I did it, but only because it was expensed travel. I couldn’t live there. There were a few people that were ok, but the majority, after work, I couldn’t even carry on a conversation with before they would start ranting about one thing or another.
Everywhere I went it felt oppressive. There was a just a feel to the area for me that made me put my head on a hard swivel. Never felt comfortable.
On the other hand I was in Atlanta twice. Once stayed downtown another time on the outskirts near Duluth, GA. Downtown I was fine for the most part, though I had some traffic that slowed and made me think twice about why I took a walk on one occasion. In Duluth area I felt almost at home and pretty comfortable.
I’ve had to tell the headhunters multiple times I will not move NE or West Coast. When the ask the first thing out of my mouth is Taxes, cost of living, and over-regulation. Before I get the ‘and’ out they are usually laughing and saying that everyone says the same thing.
I am a KJV-only Baptist, but I thought you might get a blessing anyway out of a passage I am teaching through right now.
Isaiah 48:17 Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.
The interpretation, of course, is a directive and promise to Israel regarding obedience to God’s direction, but the application extends to those who have placed their faith and trust in Christ.
Regardless of the decision you make, God speed fellow Freeper. It would DEFINITELY have to be the Lord moving me to Connecticut for me to even think about it.

I respect the onlyists more now, than I did before.
Some of the textual arguments presented in defense of it might not be the best, but I think that they are trying to give voice to something that’s driven from the spiritual side. Spirit can cut through thick old words. But at the same time, it can cut through new words too. Some of the most stunning realizations I’ve gotten was through reading the Message paraphrase. Of course I consult the original to be sure that’s a workable rendition, but in the end it’s all hidden in my heart and I can grip that sword the right way too.
