My sweet little Cashmere passed away today.
She was only 9 1/2 years old. She had quit eating starting Friday so by Sunday I was panicking and took her to the emergency vet. She had lost quite a bit of weight already, due to polycystic kidney disease. The vet said we could only get maybe another couple weeks with her with treatment at the clinic, so we decided to end her suffering.
She has about the sweetest cat I've ever had. Cautious, shy, the undercat among her brother and sister. I always had to protect her and make sure she got her fair share of food, toys, catnip, etc.
She was quietly playful - I'd catch her playing with string the string from window blinds or a piece of paper on the floor. When she was un 'friendly mode', she'd purr loudly, rub against you while twirling round and round, finally settling down to knead while purring her head off.
She was the only cat I could trust to take outside at our cabin in the Sierras, since she'd always stay by me and would follow me when I called her. She'd get nervous after an hour outside and stand by the front door, waiting to be let in. But she'd chase bugs and play while outside - while I snapped pictures of her. She was very photogenic!
I apologize for all the pictures! My little girl took good pictures (of course, all pet parents think the same thing!). Her brother and sister weren't nearly as photogenic, though. These pictures represent my memories of her so I wanted to share them, plus post a memorial to her. I did try to keep them small!
Her sister, Cotton, and brother, Corduroy, will miss her terribly. The 3 have been together for 9 1/2 years and don't know what it's like to be apart. Like any siblings, they had their tiffs, with little Cashmere in the losing end most of the time. So when they'd get along and sleep, play, or watch birds together, I'd be happy for Cashmere.
We buried her in a pretty part of our yard, where the daffodils are coming up around her. She loved flowers! The few times hubby brought me flowers, Cashmere would come running over as if they were for her. We would joke that he needed to bring Cashmere flowers again for Valentines or whatever holiday. I'd find her on the counter every day, sniffing the flowers.
Sorry for your loss.
Oh my! What a sweetie. Sorry to hear this.
RIP lil Cashmere, such a beautiful kitty
So sorry.
:(
could you please post this to your kitty ping list, if you don’t think the number of pictures I put in won’t be overwhelming to your group ;)
Sorry for your loss. Nine and a half years of life and love ain’t bad at all
What a cutie. So sorry to hear of your loss.
Beautiful kitty. Such a loss when they go it’s amazing how attached we become to animals.
I’m so sorry for your loss.
She was a beautiful kitty, and looks like such a gentle soul.
Always hard to lose a pet. My sympathies.
I am so sorry.
Wow - you guys found this thread FAST! I just posted it!
Thank you so much for your condolences and kind words. It means so very much.
Awwwww. RIP, Cashmere.
Sorry for your loss. Had to have emergency on 16 year old granny Chihuahua. Cancer of her uterus. She is recouping now as we speak. I was sure they were going to open her up and say the cancer was rampant , but thankfully it wasn’t. They think they got it all. Vet said she was the most healthy 16 y.o. she had ever seen. She still even likes to play for a short while at any rate. Can hardly see and hearing seems to be gone now as well. So it probably won’t be much longer that I get to enjoy her. But when she does pass I will know she had a good long wonderful life.
I know your heart aches for the little girl in a fur suit. You gave her a wonderful life; be thankful for that.
She was very gentle. As sweet as could be. She had a special place in my heart because of it. I admire her sister’s feistiness and her brother’s alpha-maleness, but I had to protect Cashmere at times and that made her special to me.
I’m glad your Chihuahua is recovering and will have many more days of love!
