From Avis Facebook, new statement. Guess they Varsity team took over. (much better statement)
We have investigated the denial of a rental that recently occurred in Manhattan. We have found that we have been inconsistent in applying our policies with respect to documentation requirements with this customer, who has rented from us in the past without providing a second form of identification. We are committed to providing an outstanding car rental experience to our customers and believe that we should have done better here. We have spoken with the customer and apologized for the misunderstanding that occurred as a result of this inconsistency in applying our documentation policy, and the customer has accepted our apology. We reiterate our policy that we do not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, religion, national origin or sexual orientation. We intend to take steps, including additional training, to improve the consistency in our application of documentation policies.
Including, maybe, firing a couple of racist jerks?
This FB response should have been their first. The first one was awful.
Translation =
The swell of angry customers grew.
The additional training for those two idiots should include knowing how to say, “Do you want fries, sir?”
I would fire both of them in a heartbeat. Why Avis did not do so means I will not be renting a vehicle from Avis EVER!
Ping to latest statement by Avis
It’s unclear about who’s getting more training, the women who wouldn’t accept his documentation or the people who accepted it previously.
I can assume, but it’s unclear.
Pretty much, but a very different statement this time.
Good question. I am assuming it’s the two, PLUS the entire company.
Since Democrat voters don’t have photo-ids, no need to apologize to that group.
I had no idea until I started scrolling down that AVIS had DELETED the entire posting down the memory hole of FB, but thankfully there are screen shots.
That statement tells me that;
1) They were wrong but...
2) They don't dare fire the mouth breathing racists who were working that branch that day.
lol, Great Point. How are all those voters that don’t have ID, that consider it too much trouble and discrimination for ID to vote, have an ID to rent a car?
Personally, if someone isn’t a citizen and a visitor, I’d like their passport along with another ID (DL with picture) to be shown to rent a car. But that’s me.
There weren’t any racist jerks in this story.
It was a false narrative.
It’s really embarrassing that freepers were so quick to throw around such accusations and buy into them.
Interesting that they finally admitted the customer was correct. Someone had to swallow hard at AVIS. Whomever wrote the first post (original company post blaming customer), needs to do some remedial “sensitivity” training.
Sounds like back peddling. They got caught out and are now trying to act as the nice guy. In the meantime that Israeli was inconvenienced by the stupidity of the clerk and the manager.
I guess without any sort of audio/video we really don’t know, but it took AVIS long enough, too long to make a reasonable post. They lost control of their company Brand on social media. I imagine that the customer might have some gratis rentals coming.
What a load of schmaltz!

Something still smells because the guy tried to show them his passport as a second document, but they refused to accept it. And in the original statement, they actually blamed the customer for maligning Avis. That is not addressed here in this new statement.
And oh yeah, the original Facebook statement has gone down the memory hole.
Very convenient.
Antisemitism according to Avis is inconsistency in applying policies with respect to documentation requirements. I wonder who pulled that out of their ass.
