So why don't I like Donald Trump?
The Briefing Room ^ | October 4, 2015 | andy58-in-nh/Andrew Kone

I'm a Tea Partier. I detest Obama and the Progressive hoard that has Washington, DC and large portions of America in a death grip. So why don't I like Donald Trump?

Honestly, sometimes I wonder what the hell is wrong with me these days. Why can't I get on the bandwagon along with so many others with whom I agree about most everything? ...

So what's the problem with Trump? In a nutshell: judgment, or rather a deficit of it, which in turn ought to make reasonable people otherwise inclined to agree with him to perhaps, think a bit harder about the consequences of their support for him in a precarious and dangerous world ...

So you think the Manhattanite Democrat who eats pizza with a fork has something to teach the men you know about manhood?

I’m sorry.

I didn’t say anything about him having something to teach men about manhood (though he seems perfectly masculine to me).

I said that some men probably don’t like him out of envy. And I believe I am probably right.

Which canidates have issued more position papers then Trump?

Read Trump’s tax plan. He gets it.

Correct, I don’t think Trump even has to try.

What’s to envy?

Go back just a couple of years and look at FR Trump threads, and you’ll see that he was largely regarded as a shyster and a joke.

So I’m not getting the “envy” part. Do some men aspire to be flailing gasbags?

Okay, I'm watching the Seattle game now.

My thoughts, intertwined with football, are these:

We're on the Republican Team. We want to really, really beat our crosstown rival, the Democrats.

Trump is our best player. I want him at quarterback. He has the best chance to WIN!

He has the best chance to get at least 30% of the various subgroups, the white vote, long term Republicans and some crossover blue collar and union democrats. I also think he'll get a majority of the woman's vote.

I go with Trump. Are you mad enough to want real change in Washington DC? No one else will change a thing!

Lombardi was right: "Winning isn't everything, it's the Only Thing!"

But Trump is not a conservative

Read his tax plan. He may not be a pure blood "Conservative" like those supposed "Conservative" champions we elected in 20010 and 2014 but he sure understands it way better then anyone currently in DC does.

Obviously you are not a fan.

But a multibillionaire with a big, beautiful family, including well-behaved rich kids into adulthood who have joined Dad in his business? A natural athlete who is also the author of multiple best-sellers, a long-time TV star, and now in the lead almost from when he first entered the GOP primary?

Yeah, I do imagine lots of men would like to have just a few of those things—and don’t have any of them.

Don't know about that. He seemed to get a lot of support here and here.

And those were just two threads from several years ago I pulled at random.

What I don’t doubt is Trump’s love for his country and his desire to stop the headlong dash to Cloward-Pivenchaos we all see coming.

Bingo! Envy an interesting psychodynamic. . take or destroy what the envied person has, etc. . . and if I can't, vote for Hillary? Pajama boys, metrosexual dem types. . Obama a perfect example.

I have. I am not an “Anti Trump” guy at all. There are a lot of things I like about him.

Money seems to be the presiding factor in your envy theory. Money is fine, but the old saying about it not buying happiness is true.

Personally I don’t envy any Democrats, regardless of what their wallet is worth.

>> I remember that as well. So we elected LBJ in a historic, record landslide and he promptly made the world much more dangerous and precarious <<

I remember too. As a young devotee of international power politics, I voted for LBJ because I thought we needed a no-nonsense, devious negotiator who would put fire in the bellies of our military, who would control the Congress, and who would brook no foolishness from the North Vietnamese and their allies.

As matters turned out, the slippery and big-talking salesman who was LBJ didn’t really understand international issues in depth, nor could he admit his mistakes until too late. Therefore he couldn’t deliver the goods, and disaster ensued.
